Minister Göktaş, in his statement on October 1, World Elderly Day, stated that while the ratio of the population over the age of 65, defined as "elderly" in Turkey, to the total population is approximately 10 percent, this ratio is expected to reach 2080 percent in 25,6 and said, "These rates tell us It indicates that one in every 4 people will be 65 years of age or older. Based on this foresight, the ministry is carrying out many studies in order to expand home care and day care services for the elderly and to focus on policies that support on-site and family care of the elderly. "With the "Integrated Care Model" that supports family-oriented care, we apply institutional care, home care assistance, home care support and day care models according to the needs of the elderly." he said.

“We supported 60 thousand elderly people aged 135.954 and over”

Stating that family-oriented elderly care services will continue to be updated and developed according to the changing demographic structure, Minister Göktaş said:

“Within the scope of Home Care Assistance, which we prioritize to ensure that our elderly receive care services alongside their families, we supported 60 thousand elderly people aged 135.954 and over in the January-September period this year, taking into account the disabilities that occur with age. Within the scope of the Home Care Assistance, which was increased to 2023 TL for the July-December period of 5.097, we support our citizens who take care of the disabled person in need of care with a monthly cash payment. "566.688 thousand of the 135.954 thousand people supported are people aged 60 and over."

“The evaluation process of 60 projects continues”

Göktaş reminded that the Elderly Support Program (YADES), which started to be implemented in 2016 and is still ongoing, is the first support program with the largest budget in the field of old age, with the resources transferred from the general budget, and said, "Municipalities support home care so that the elderly can continue their lives in their own homes, with their families." We have provided a total of 39 million TL of financial support to date with the YADES program, which supports the projects prepared to support and day care services. With 35 different projects prepared by 61 municipalities, we reached 87 thousand 629 elderly people in 128 thousand 323 households and provided home care support, psycho-social support and cultural activity services. Within the scope of efforts to expand YADES throughout the country, we received a total of 27 new project applications from 33 provinces and 60 district municipalities. “Day Care and Active Life Centers were implemented”

Minister Göktaş noted that Day Care and Active Life Centers were implemented in order to facilitate the lives of healthy elderly people who live alone at home or continue their lives with their families and relatives and to improve their quality of life, and continued as follows:
“In centers where support services are provided in daily life activities, activity groups are established according to the interests of the elderly. The activities organized contribute to enriching social relations and improving the quality of life. With our centers where we have provided services to a total of 38 elderly people in 538 centers across Turkey so far, we aim to encourage the elderly to stay with their families, to actively participate in social life and to be psycho-socially healthier. We aim to expand our centers throughout the country.”
