The importance of the Living Gulf investments of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate, which aims to return the Gulf to its old days, is also positively reflected in the water quality reports. According to the results of the latest analysis, which included measurements made at multiple points in the Gulf of Izmir, it was determined that the water quality was of medium and good quality, especially during periods when heavy rains were not experienced.

260 km rainwater line was built
According to the report; especially Mavişehir, Karşıyaka It was observed that the measurement results in the Yelken Kulübü, Konak Alsancak, Göztepe, Poligon, Üçkuyular İskelesi, İnciraltı Kent Ormanı Disabled Park and Sahilevleri areas were generally in the good and medium quality class. Although the water quality of the bay varies periodically due to floods in rainy weather, it was observed that the water quality was in the better quality class in the summer months when there was no heavy rain.
İZSU General Directorate continues its investments to keep the Gulf's water quality at medium and good quality throughout the year. For this purpose, emphasis was placed on rainwater separation investments, and 260 kilometers of rainwater separation lines were manufactured throughout the city. When the construction of the 2023 kilometer line planned for 230 is completed, the city's infrastructure will become resistant to floods and flood events and the burden on the Gulf will be finally eliminated.
How is it measured?
Within the scope of the Regulation on Bathing Water Quality Management, regular monitoring activities are carried out in the inner and middle parts of Izmir Bay. For the studies carried out since 2020, monthly samples are taken from different points of the Gulf and analyzed. Intestinal enterococcus and Escherichia coli parameters are taken as basis in the analysis.
It is seen that the swimmable points, which are monitored by the Ministry of Health in the Water Tracking System and published on swimming.sağlık.gov.tr, are within the limits of medium and good quality class values given in terms of Intestinal enterococcus and Escherichia coli parameters.
