Due to the climate crisis and people's carelessness, 300 to 500 million hectares of forest area burns annually in the world. According to the report prepared by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), both the number and duration of fires due to climate change have increased worldwide.
Masdaf Marketing Manager Nihan Göksal, who made a statement within the scope of "Fire Protection and Fire Fighting Week", celebrated every year between 25 September and 1 October in Turkey, drew attention to what needs to be done for early intervention in forest fires that disrupt the ecosystem and threaten biodiversity.
Heat waves triggered by climate change in Turkey and the world also bring forest fires with them. According to the report prepared by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the number of fires due to climate change is increasing worldwide. Moreover, not only the number of fires but also their duration has increased by 35 percent in the last 19 years.
1022 thousand 6 hectares of forest were damaged in 900 forest fires
While an average of 300 to 500 million hectares of forest area in the world is affected by fires annually, 10 to 20 thousand hectares of land is damaged in Turkey. According to the statement made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry; This year, 1022 forest fires broke out in Turkey and 6 thousand 900 hectares of forest area were damaged in these fires.
Approximately 40 percent of forest fires start due to people's carelessness, such as picnics, fires, and cigarette butts.
Masdaf Marketing Manager Nihan Göksal, who made a statement within the scope of "Fire Protection and Firefighting Week", celebrated every year between 25 September and 1 October in Turkey, drew attention to what needs to be done for early intervention in forest fires that disrupt the ecosystem and threaten biodiversity:
“In order to take forest fires under control in a short time, it is necessary to intervene in the fire before the fire brigade reaches the scene. Before the fire brigade arrived at the scene, the fire was intervened with fire pumps and the fire was stopped; It is possible to reduce its effects on forests, people and the environment. In order to achieve successful results in this regard, municipalities need to provide equipment and training support to volunteer citizens living in forest areas regarding first response to fire. In addition, sufficient equipment support should be provided to the protection and security officers of the General Directorate of Forestry.
As Masdaf, we offer effective system solutions in firefighting by pressurizing water fire extinguishing systems in forests with our "Fire Pumps", which we have developed in accordance with the world's most preferred NFPA (National Protection Association) and UL/FM standards. "In this way, we ensure that the fire is intervened with fire pumps and the fire is taken under control before the fire brigade reaches the scene," he said.
