Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is starting to work to keep the Island and Lake casinos, which have an important place in the cultural history of the city and the country, alive in their original form.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues to protect Izmir's urban memory. The Metropolitan Municipality took action to renovate the Ada and Lake casinos in Kültürpark, one of the most important venues in the fair organization, culture and art history of Izmir and Turkey, from the 1930s to the present day, in accordance with the original. The restoration and reconstruction works of the Island and Lake casinos, which were designed within the scope of the improvement works of Kültürpark, the symbol of the city, and received the approval of the Preservation Board, will begin on Monday, September 25.
Ada Casino, which has an important place in Izmir's cultural heritage, will be restored using strengthening methods. There will be no reinforcement at Lake Casino due to static problems. This place will be demolished and rebuilt in accordance with its original form. After the restoration and reconstruction works are completed, both buildings will continue to serve the people of Izmir in a manner befitting their historical identity and character.
Izmir's art heritage
Ada and Lake casinos, which date back to then Mayor Behçet Uz's plan to establish an international fairground in the region destroyed in the Izmir fire, have an important place in Izmir's culture and art history. These historical places, where the most important artistic activities of not only Izmir but also Turkey were carried out, hosted famous artists and left traces in the memory of a period.
Zeki Müren, Müzeyyen Senar, Tanju Okan, Muazzez Abacı, Emel Sayın, Moğollar, Ajda Pekkan İbrahim Tatlıses, Gönül Yürür, Barış Manço and Cem Karaca gave concerts in these casinos at the Izmir Fair, whose history literally witnessed a parade of stars. Famous artists such as İsmail Dümbüllü, Nejat Uygur, Sadri Alışık, Zeki Alasya-Metin Akpınar performed unforgettable theater shows in these casinos.
