Bursa's Dams are Full, Continue Savings

It is heartening that the occupancy of Doğancı and Nilüfer dams, which meet 85 percent of Bursa's drinking water needs, is around 50 percent higher than the same period last year. Stating that under normal conditions, the water reserve is at a level that will meet the need until the end of the year, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş warned all citizens to continue saving without complacency.

In Bursa, which is an example to Turkey with the rate of loss and theft in drinking water falling to 20 percent with the infrastructure investments of the Metropolitan Municipality, it is aimed to complete the year 2023 without any problems in terms of drinking water with the existing water reserves. In Doğancı Dam, which meets the city's drinking water needs, the occupancy rate, which was 32 percent last year, was 49 percent this year, and in Nilüfer Dam, which was 49 percent last year, this year it was 65 percent. While the fact that the occupancy rates are around 50 percent higher than last year gives hope, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş emphasized that they see the possibility of concern about water supply in Bursa until the end of the year as very low.

Savings are a must

Stating that the water levels in the dams are expected to rise further, considering the autumn rains and the approaching winter season conditions, Mayor Aktaş said, “Occupancy rates indicate that the possibility of any drought danger awaiting Bursa this year is low. As of now, under normal conditions, our total water reserve is at a level that will meet our drinking water needs until the end of the year. "However, even though the water levels in the dams are sufficient, let's not give up on saving water," he said.
