Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Marmaray broke all records by carrying 10 billion passengers in 1 years. Uraloğlu said, “Marmaray has carried more passengers than the population of the European Continent of 64 million consisting of 745 countries. “This is an investment and a business success,” he said.
Marmaray, which was opened in 2013 and was built under the Bosphorus, made history not only with the number of passengers used, but also as the first freight train to reach Europe from China via the Iron Silk Road using the Marmaray. Also, in the European Halkalı Marmaray, located between the Train Station and the Gebze Train Station on the Anatolian Side and stretching along the Marmara Sea, stands out as one of the most important railway projects not only in Turkey but also in the world.
Marmaray carried more passengers in 10 years than the European Continent, which consists of 64 countries. Emphasizing that the use of Marmaray by a billion passengers in 10 years is a great investment success, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said:
“Marmaray has the world's deepest immersed tube tunnel used by rail systems with a depth of 60,46 meters. Marmaray, which started voyages with 5 stations in the first stage, now serves our citizens with 76,6 stations with a length of 43 kilometers. Marmaray, which has a daily capacity of 287 trips and 877 thousand 72 passengers, still has a fleet of 34 wagons in a total of 10 train sets, 20 with 5 wagons and 54 with 440 wagons. Gebze-Halkalı The number of passengers carried in 108 years has reached one billion in Marmaray, which has reduced the travel time between the airports to 10 minutes. In 2023, it is aimed to transport approximately 203 million passengers with Marmaray.”

Emphasizing that Marmaray, which offers uninterrupted rail transportation from London to Beijing, stands out not only in passenger but also in freight transportation, Minister Uraloğlu said, “With Marmaray, not only urban passenger transportation, but also mainline and freight transportation became uninterrupted. Marmaray, Gebze, Pendik, Bostancı, Söğütlüçeşme, Bakırköy and Halkalı YHT and main line trains are served at the stations. High-speed trains pass through Marmaray. THE FIRST FREIGHT TRAIN FROM CHINA TO EUROPE MAKES HISTORY USING MARMARAY
Reminding that it made history as the first international freight train to complete the China-Turkey track in 12 days and the total route between China-Prague in 18 days, and the first freight train that went from China to Europe via the Iron Silk Road and reached Europe using Marmaray, Uraloğlu said, “Marmaray also broke new ground in domestic freight transportation. On May 8, 2020, the freight train carrying plastic raw materials from Gaziantep to Çorlu passed through Marmaray and became the first domestic freight train to use Marmaray. While 3 thousand 29 freight trains have passed through the Marmaray Bosphorus Tube Crossing, 610 of these trains have passed to the European direction and 1419 to the Asian direction, and most of them have carried export cargo. With the uninterrupted transportation of cargo via the Derince-Tekirdağ ferry with Marmaray, intermediate handling and ferry costs have been eliminated, while competitive transportation tariffs have been created in terms of both time and cost.
