Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç, Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek, Kayseri deputies and provincial protocol attended the opening ceremony of the Veli Altınkaya Press Museum, which will shed light on the 113-year history of Kayseri press in cooperation with the Metropolitan Municipality, Erciyes University and Kayseri Journalists Association.

The official opening ceremony of the Kayseri Journalists' Association Veli Altınkaya Press Museum, which was restored by the Metropolitan Municipality in Badem Street, in the Tavukçu District, known as the historical Kayseri District, was held.

Celebrating the 24th of July Journalists and Press Day, Büyükkılıç continued his words as follows:

“We know that your burden is heavy, your responsibility is heavy. I congratulate the day of our friends who work devotedly in order to inform the public quickly and accurately, in accordance with the principles of journalism and professional ethics. From the 16th century to this time, we all observe that the newspaper and journalism profession, which entered our lives with news letters at first, then news books and almanacs, has now gained a digital dimension. The Turkish press, which has made a significant progress from the past to the present, has never lost its importance until now, it has always remained on the agenda.”

President Büyükkılıç emphasized that the Kayseri press, which is one of the most important examples of the Anatolian press operating during the National Struggle, has been successfully continuing its existence since 1910 and said, “Our fellow citizen, who was born in the Turan village of Kayseri with the name Yunus Bekir 113 years ago, started journalism. We have local newspapers, televisions, digital broadcasting television and 14 radios. Our local press, which is intertwined with our national press, is very strong in Kayseri, and I would like to thank you, our friends, who contributed.”

“It was aimed to build a bridge between generations with the museum”

Giving a message of unity and togetherness, Büyükkılıç conveyed information about the museum and said:

“With this meaningful and special museum, we aimed to build a bridge between generations in the Kayseri press. In this sense, the personalities working in the field of press and broadcasting in Kayseri and the stages of equipment, materials, documents and publications used in the same field in the historical process were discussed. There will be data and artifacts such as printing presses, old cameras, newspapers, magazines, radios, bathrooms and typewriters. Thus, it was aimed to better understand the local and general development of Kayseri press publication history and to establish a bridge between generations.”

Mayor Büyükkılıç stated that they have added a new one to the museums in Kayseri, the city of museums, that have a history of 6 years, reflecting the identity of the city, explaining its history and culture, and wishing the press of Kayseri good luck and surprise, he shared with the public that they will bring different museums together with Kayseri in the coming days.

In his speech, Büyükkılıç conveyed his greetings and love to all members of the press and said, "With these feelings and thoughts, I congratulate once again the 24th of July Journalists and Press Day of all our members of the press who have worked devotedly under difficult conditions, wish God's mercy on the members of the press who passed away while doing their duty, and expressed my heartfelt condolences to the entire press community, from its manager to its staff, from its reporter and cameraman to its editor."

Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek emphasized that Veli Altınkaya Press Museum is an example of loyalty and said, “A veteran journalist is an example of loyalty shown by the Metropolitan Municipality to a writer who has served, thought and written about this city.”
