Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum is hosting a panel organized by the Association of the Professional Association of Museology (MMKD) and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums with the support of Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) to evaluate the effects of the 6 February Earthquake on cultural heritage. . The panel titled “February 6 Earthquake and Our Shaken Legacy: The Living Tells” will take place free of charge on Thursday, June 8, between 16.30 and 20.00 at the Pera Museum Auditorium.

Lessons for Istanbul waiting for the earthquake

The earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6 and Antakya on February 21 and thousands of aftershocks caused great losses and suffering, while also damaging the unique cultural heritage of the region. In the panel at the Pera Museum, the efforts of the museums to survive this great natural disaster and their contribution to the return of life in their region to normalcy will be shared firsthand by the museum curators who experienced the 6 February Earthquake and carried out rescue, safety, damage assessment and recovery efforts after it. It is aimed that these current experiences will shed light on experts working in the field of cultural assets and museology, especially in a city like Istanbul that is waiting for its own earthquake.
