Tesla's giant Shanghai facility, also known as the gigafactory, produced and delivered 142 vehicles in May, a leap of 77 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the company's data. As a matter of fact, Tesla's chief Elon Musk, who visited the giant Shanghai facility Gigafactory at the beginning of May within the framework of his visit to China, praised the aforementioned facility for its production efficiency and quality.

Tesla's giant facility in Shanghai, which opened in eastern China in 2019, is the automaker's first facility of this scale outside its home country of the United States. On the other hand, the American automaker announced in April 2023 that it will make another major investment in Shanghai.

This new facility will be the construction of a new “megafactory” to produce the energy tank Megapack, which will be dedicated to the use of its vehicles. This new factory is planned to first produce 10 megapack-units per year. This corresponds to an energy storage capacity of about 40 gigawatt hours (GWh). The production will be available worldwide, judging by Tesla's statement.
