Equinix Is Building a Quantum-Enabled Future

Oxford Quantum Circuits partners with Equinix to enable companies around the world to experience and popularize breakthrough quantum technology.

Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), a leading global “Quantum Computing as a Service” (QCaaS) company, and Equinix (Nasdaq: EQIX), the world's digital infrastructure company; OQC announced that it aims to build one of the most powerful quantum computers commercially available for businesses worldwide through the TY11 Tokyo International Business Exchange (IBX®) data center owned by Equinix.

OQC plans to install its quantum hardware on the TY11 and leverage Equinix's on-demand interconnect solution, Equinix Fabric, to make the QCaaS system available to businesses and organizations around the world on Equinix's global platform in late 2023.

It is stated that after connecting to the Equinix Fabric, businesses will benefit from the ease of access to quantum computing as if they were in-house. This means businesses can experience breakthrough technology by connecting directly to QCaaS within their digital infrastructure with greater security and ease.

Increasing demand is expected from organizations with the technology set to support a wide range of industries, from drug discovery and development to risk management, banking and advanced manufacturing.

Emphasizing the benefits and importance of Equinix Fabric for customers like OQC who want to expand their connectivity opportunities, Equinix Turkey General Manager Aslıhan Güreşcier said, “Quantum computing is preparing to make a transformational revolution in processing speed and power. It opens up huge opportunities in everything from improved cybersecurity and faster drug discovery to climate modeling and eliminating heat emissions from computing. Quantum computing has the potential to transform the way businesses solve problems both now and in the future, especially as our customers seek more innovative solutions. "As the world's digital infrastructure company, we are proud to provide thousands of businesses around the world with easier, secure and high-bandwidth access to this pioneering technology."

OQC CEO Dr. Ilana Wisby expressed her views on the collaboration as follows: “The world is waiting for quantum computing to mature enough to change our lives. Installing quantum computing in Equinix's world-class TY11 data center brings us one step closer to that reality. Quantum computing represents a major shift in technology and process. Unlike traditional classical computers, quantum computers can process huge amounts of data at incredible speeds. We are excited to work with Equinix to help businesses around the world develop their quantum skills and capabilities. The future is here and we are setting the pace for the quantum computing age.”

Andrew Buss, Senior Research Director at IDC in Europe: The Future of Digital Infrastructure, points to recent research at IDC: “The ability for data-driven businesses to differentiate and stay competitive depends on delivering meaningful insights into ever more complex scenarios and in tighter timeframes. This is pushing businesses to invest in cutting-edge technologies, such as quantum computing, that have the potential to revolutionize the functionality of insights from underlying data. IDC estimates that by 2026, 95 percent of companies will invest in computing technologies that provide faster insights from complex datasets to drive differentiated business outcomes.1 Making quantum computing available “as a service” on a globally interconnected digital infrastructure, It will open up many more organizations that want to test and use quantum technology by significantly reducing barriers to experimentation and adoption, such as cost, skills, and complexity of integration.”
