In the statement made by the EGO General Directorate, “Due to the fact that the Yenimahalle-Şentepe Cable Car System has been out of service recently; Our citizens are asked questions about whether there is a chronic problem in the system or not. In this context, it was deemed appropriate to make the following statement.
The Cable Car System, with the line starting at Yenimahalle metro station and reaching the center of Şentepe, has a capacity of 2 thousand 400 people/hour in one direction by air; It is a system integrated with the metro with 4 stops, 105 cabins and a length of 3 thousand 257 meters. Since it is an airborne system, it is stopped from time to time due to unsuitable weather conditions. In addition, due to the fact that the technical infrastructure that enables the operation of the system is underground in the streets and streets on the route, excavations etc. carried out around the system. can also be stopped by being affected by the studies.
As it is known, the cable car system was temporarily closed to service as of March 19, 21, due to the fact that the physical conditions of the cabins did not allow travel in accordance with social distance during the Covid-2020 pandemic; With the transition to the third stage of the gradual normalization process on July 01, 2021, it was considered that opening the business, which was closed for about fifteen months, without heavy maintenance, would be inconvenient in terms of passenger safety and system security, and on July 07, 2021, heavy maintenance works of the line were started.
In addition to the heavy maintenance, during the inspection, the clamp parts of 1 cabins (the system that allows the cabin to hold on to the rope) were replaced with the 3 meters of unusable transport-towing rope in the 070st stage.
This is the first time such a comprehensive study has been carried out on the ropeway line, which was opened in 2014 and routine maintenance and repair works were carried out. After the completion of the works, Yenimahalle-Şentepe Cable Car Line was reopened on 08 April 2022. In addition, a line maintenance and repair contract has been signed with the company, which is the original manufacturer of the ropeway line, for the immediate elimination of any malfunctions that may occur.
Currently, there is no chronic malfunction of the Yenimahalle-Şentepe Cable Car System. However, due to the circumstances beyond our control due to adverse weather conditions, temporary breakdowns are also experienced due to the works of some private companies and institutions in the region; Therefore, the service has to be suspended. Considering the possible malfunctions that may occur in the future, public institutions and organizations working on the ropeway route and companies were asked to contact our Institution before their work in the region by writing.
In addition, when we look at the previous period failure statistics regarding the Cable Car System opened in 2014, it is seen that the downtime of the system is much less, especially in our period, as a result of heavy maintenance-repair works and routine maintenance.
