Mao Ning said that more than a year since the Sino-Laos railway was put into service, rapid growth has been recorded in both passenger and freight transport, that two-way international passenger train services on the China-Laos railway started a month ago, and that trains departing from Kunming, China. He stated that he was able to reach the city of Vientiane, Laos, in the evening.
Mao stated that the railway facilitates communication between the two countries, while promoting tourism, economic and trade cooperation.
Pointing out that the China-Laos railway has increased employment in Laos, Mao announced that 3 Laotian personnel have been employed since the opening of the railway, and more than 500 jobs have been created in the fields of logistics, transportation, trade and tourism.
Mao also informed that the goods exported from Laos and Thailand to China by rail reached 3 million 260 thousand tons.
Mao stated that environmental protection was given great importance in the construction and operation of the China-Laos railway, and noted that 3 million square meters of land were greened along the railway.
