'Advanced Driving Techniques Training' for Bus Drivers in Mersin

In cooperation with Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Human Resources and Education Department and Mersin University Continuing Education Application and Research Center, 'Advanced Driving Techniques Training' was given to bus drivers of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of 2023 In-Service Training Plan.

The training that the bus drivers received in two groups at the Congress Center, Mersin University Engineering Faculty Automotive Department Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Ilker Sugözü performed it.

100 bus drivers working in the Metropolitan Municipality, in groups of 50, received theoretical training at the Congress Center on reaction distance, braking distance, stopping distance, panic braking, driving techniques, seat belts, seat, steering wheel adjustments, braked-non-brake course, He put it into practice in the parking area next to Mersin Stadium. The drivers, who gained a lot of information from understanding the driving techniques in the theoretical trainings to the methods of correcting the mistakes made while driving, had the opportunity to better know the capacity and features of the vehicles they use in the practical trainings, and were informed about safer driving techniques.

Sugözü: “Through training, drivers also correct the wrongs they know to be right”

Mersin University Faculty of Engineering Automotive Department Lecturer Assoc. Dr. İlker Sugözü said, “Our drivers of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality first completed their theoretical training, then we started the practical training. Within the scope of the application training, we are here to learn whether they can use their features such as getting to know their vehicles, having general information about the vehicles, using the information they have, reflex management, stopping distance, braking distance, or what reflex they are in. The drivers will test themselves on the track, and we will take our notes.” Sugözü explained that thanks to the trainings, the drivers also corrected the mistakes they knew to be true and that they would have the most up-to-date information.

Bus drivers were satisfied with the trainings

Working as a bus driver in the Metropolitan Municipality, Pervin Kır said, “I have been working as a bus driver in Mersin Metropolitan Municipality for 2,5 years. The reason we came here is to have a more advanced knowledge of safe driving techniques and to transport our passengers to their destinations in a safer way. Foreseeing the future a little better is certainly helpful. The trainings given here already foresee it. For example, our knowledge about what we can do about the problems we will encounter and how our reflexes can be strengthened is reinforced.” Indicating that the passengers are happy to travel with the municipal buses, Kır said, “They are more satisfied with the female drivers in particular. When they see us, they say 'you use it more carefully, you smile and welcome us'. This makes us happy,” he said.

Bus driver Selçuk Polat said, “In this training, we get information both to improve our driving technique and to ensure that our citizens travel more safely and comfortably. I think that the training given has a great impact on both the safety of our passengers and the development of our chauffeur.”
