The tradition of minstrelsy, registered as the “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO, stands out as one of the important parts of the cultural diversity and richness of Anatolia as well as its cultural memory. Undoubtedly, Aşık Veysel is the most important representative of the folk poet and minstrel tradition in Anatolia in our recent history. Aşık Kenzi is one of the most important poets who have kept this tradition alive in Cyprus.
These two masters of the minstrel tradition will be commemorated with events to be organized in cooperation with the Near East University and the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) on May 17. With the participation of President Ersin Tatar, the photography exhibition “Aşık Veysel in the Press and Through the Lens of the Masters” will be opened at the Near East University İrfan Günsel Congress Center Exhibition Hall on Wednesday, May 17 at 17.00, and will bring together the hitherto unknown photographs of Aşık Veysel with art lovers. The photography exhibition of works by Aşık Veysel's grandson Nazender Süzer Gökçe and Gürsel Gökçe will be open to visitors free of charge until 26 May.
