Anadolu Medical Center Internal Diseases and Nephrology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Enes Murat Atasoy pointed out that people who do not like the sun or neglect to go out in the sun during intense work, have milk allergy or follow a vegan diet, and people with dark skin may have vitamin D deficiency.

Dr. Enes Murat Atasoy said, “The duration of stay in the sun varies according to the characteristics of the skin. Since the skin of fair-skinned people will usually start to turn pink within 30 minutes, it only takes 3 minutes of sun exposure to produce the vitamin D15 the body needs. Dark-skinned people may take longer to stay in the sun to produce vitamin D. The time of exposure to the sun may vary depending on the tone of the skin and climatic conditions.

Fatigue can be a sign of Vitamin D deficiency

Assoc. Dr. Emphasizing that there is no typical symptom of vitamin D deficiency, Enes Murat Atasoyu said, “It can usually cause complaints such as pain in the bones and fatigue. "Sometimes there may be no symptoms at all," he said.

Reminding that exposure to sunlight in general is the best way to get the vitamin D that the body needs, Assoc. Dr. Atasoy said, “Consumption of foods containing vitamin D is also very beneficial. Fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, cereal, milk, egg yolk, orange juice, cereal, beef liver and yogurt are among the foods rich in vitamin D.

Too much vitamin D is also a cause of disease.

Emphasizing that excessive doses of vitamin D can cause various ailments such as deficiency, Assoc. Dr. Atasoy said, “If there is too much vitamin D in the body, calcium levels rise and can cause hypercalcemia. Hypercalcemia can lead to serious conditions such as loss of appetite, excessive urination, kidney failure, heart rhythm disorder, thirst, constipation, nausea-vomiting, loss of consciousness and coma.
