Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation has started a renovation work at Üçkuyular-Bostanlı ferry piers, where the frequency of voyages has increased with the increasing vehicle and passenger capacity. Renovation work was carried out in the existing passenger waiting hall and toll booths at Üçkuyular Pier, where 7 ferries within İZDENİZ serve with a frequency of 15 minutes. These studies have come to an end. Vehicle platforms, bus stops and parking area in the open area of the pier will also be arranged.

“The hall of 28 square meters was increased to 168 square meters”

Kadir Efe Oruç, Head of Transportation Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who gave information about the works, said, “As of 2020, we have increased the number of 3 ferries in our fleet to 7. Along with the increasing number of ferries, the number of vehicles and passengers we carry increased in parallel. Our ferry docking pier and passenger lounge in Üçkuyular have become unable to meet the current demand to a certain extent. We have prepared a comprehensive project study regarding this. At this point, our project is about to be completed. We increased our passenger lounge of 28 square meters to 168 square meters, including indoor and outdoor areas. We aim to open it to the service of our passengers in the coming days," he said.

“Bostanlı Pier is also being renovated”

Stating that they have also started work on the Bostanlı Pier, Oruç said, “We will increase the passenger waiting capacity and expand the vehicle waiting areas in the docking areas. We aim to open it to the use of our citizens by the end of 2023”.

Increasing vehicle capacity

The new waiting room at Üçkuyular Pier has been transformed into a total of 96 square meters, 72 square meters of which is closed and 168 square meters are open. In the new passenger hall, which has a total seating capacity of 84, the air conditioning system and passenger timetable and information screens have been installed. The 2 toll booths at the entrance to the pier were renovated and given a modern look. In the summer period, the capacity of the vehicle waiting area is increased from 152 vehicles to 258 vehicles in order to avoid traffic jams in the vehicle waiting area.
