After the plane crisis with Russia, the export of tomatoes, which was first banned to Russia and then subject to a quota, was increased by 150 thousand tons with the latest agreement.

As a result of the decision made during the last meeting between President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Turkish tomatoes will take their place on Russian tables more strongly. The quota for tomato exports to Russia was increased from 350 thousand tons to 500 thousand tons.

After the plane crisis with Russia, the export of tomatoes, which was first banned to Russia and then subject to a quota, was increased by 150 thousand tons with the latest agreement. This quota increase made the industry smile.

Giving the information that fresh tomatoes brought 2022 million dollars of foreign currency to Turkey in 377, Aegean Exporters' Unions Coordinator Vice President and Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association President Hayrettin Aircraft stated that the 150 thousand-ton quota increase strongly paved the way for tomato exports to Russia.

Stating that Russia has been the leading country in tomato exports for many years in Turkey, they have experienced a loss of power in the Russian market due to quota problems in recent years, Uçar said, “Our fresh tomato exports to Russia, which was 2021 million dollars in 68, decreased to 2022 million dollars in 33. After this decision, we expect our tomato exports to Russia to recover and Russia to become the leading country. We would like to thank our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for the decision that paved the way for the sector. We wish this decision to be auspicious for our producers and exporters.”

Informing that tomato exports reached 2023 million dollars from 22 million dollars in the first quarter of 145 with an increase of 203 percent, Mayor Ucak added that tomato exports could reach 2023 million dollars by the end of 500 after this positive decision.
