Beylikdüzü Municipality continues the necessary risk reduction studies within the scope of the targets and actions determined in line with the Provincial Risk Reduction Plan (IRAP).

Within the scope of risk reduction studies, the municipality gives priority to urban transformation studies in order to transform risky buildings in the district and to accommodate citizens in safe houses.

As a result of the studies carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in accordance with the Law No. 6306 on the Transformation of Areas Under Disaster Risk, 45 of the 974 risky structures identified in the district were demolished. While the operations regarding 71 risky buildings are continuing, the resettlement works for the construction of 110 buildings that were demolished continue.

Transformation continues in Gürpınar Siteler Region

Supporting all the urban transformation works in the district, the municipality also started the urban transformation process in the Gürpınar Mahallesi Siteler Region, where risky residences are located, by working together with KİPTAŞ.

“We cannot know when disasters occur, but we can plan to be ready when disaster strikes”

Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık stated that they approached the urban transformation process with a holistic approach and said:

“We are working hard to make our city more resilient, to improve measures and disaster management. In order to minimize the loss of life and property in a possible earthquake, we urgently need to renew our fragile buildings. On the one hand, we carry out our works before, during and after the disaster, on the other hand, we act by prioritizing urban transformation. While making the necessary arrangements for the transformation of old buildings as soon as possible, we are also renewing our risk maps against all possible risks.”

Stating that they established the Coordination Affairs Directorate to ensure coordination and inter-unit coordination in risk and crisis processes so that natural events do not turn into a disaster, Mayor Çalık said, “The only duty of this directorate will be to ensure that our city is ready for disasters, that is, to ensure urban resilience. We cannot know when disasters occur, but we can plan to be ready when disaster strikes. We continue to work on how we can build a more resilient Beylikdüzü with the cooperation of our district governorship.”
