The World's First Lithium Extraction Project From Seawater
The World's First Lithium Extraction Project from China

The world's first project to extract lithium from seawater by desalination is carried out in Qingdao, China.

The signing ceremony of the project was held in Qingdao city and is expected to serve production in December.

As the first worldwide project to extract lithium from seawater, the Qingdao project broke new ground for the extraction of lithium resource. There are 230 billion tons of lithium reserves in sea water. Seawater, which is not a conventional source, is not affected by geopolitics. Lithium extracted from the sea is useful for power plants and industrial projects in coastal cities where seawater is used. With the implementation of this project, the problem of China's over-reliance on imported lithium source will be solved and the industry chain for seawater desalination will also be developed.
