Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum stated that 6 million buildings consisting of 4 million 750 thousand independent sections were examined during the damage assessment studies in the provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred on February 1, and that 520 thousand independent sections and 582 thousand buildings will be demolished immediately. reported that it was found to be damaged or destroyed.

Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, after his investigations in Kırıkhan, Hatay Governor Rahmi Doğan, AK Party Hatay deputies Hüseyin Yayman, Sabahat Özgürsoy Çelik, Hacı Bayram Türkoğlu, Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, district mayors, held a meeting with the representatives of non-governmental organizations and institution officials on the latest situation in the city.

The Minister, who listened to the demands and requests at the meeting attended by academic members who are experts in their fields from universities, received information about the studies.

Making a statement after the meeting, the Minister Kurum said that all units of the state continue their efforts to relocate the citizens to safe and secure areas in the earthquake-affected regions with the understanding of mobilization.

Stating that they received the opinions, ideas and demands of opinion leaders, tradesmen and non-governmental organizations regarding the reconstruction of the city at the meeting, Minister Kurum stated that they have prepared a master plan for the construction of the city in accordance with the historical texture of the city.

Minister Kurum stated that they will start the settlement process in Hatay on the skirts of Amanos Mountain with a solid and safe ground, and stated that they have started the preparations for the said plan with an understanding that preserves the historical, cultural and natural beauties of the city and its demographic structure.

Expressing that their doors and hearts are open to anyone who wants to contribute to this process from the city for the plan, the Institution explained that the working group will continue to work on a 7/24 basis together with representatives from municipalities and non-governmental organizations.

Buildings in Antakya, Kırıkhan, Defne and Samandag will be re-examined

Stating that the unity and solidarity that started from the first moment of the earthquake will continue until the last moment and that these difficult days will be overcome by working together, the Minister Kurum noted that the damage assessment works are also continuing.

Stating that they will carry out damage assessment studies again due to the Defne and Samandağ-centered earthquakes in Hatay, the Minister Kurum stated that the buildings previously found to be slightly damaged, undamaged or moderately damaged in Antakya, Kırıkhan, Defne and Samandağ will be examined once again.

Regarding the works after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, the Minister Institution said, “4 million 750 thousand buildings consisting of 1 million 520 thousand independent sections were examined. We will be carrying out the construction process according to the most accurate construction technique, on the most accurate ground at this point, with our micro-zoning studies and detailed geological teams, and the most accurate settlement areas. By the end of this month, we will complete our contracts consisting of 14 thousand independent sections, and then hopefully we will be carrying out the construction of our houses in stages.” used his statements.

Reminding that the construction activities of the residences were started in Nurdağı, the Minister Kurum continued as follows:

“Contracts have been signed for 456 new homes, 399 in Nurdağı, 645 in İslahiye, 297 in Kilis and 1797 in Adıyaman, and the construction processes have started. Then, we completed the contracts for 590 thousand 364 new homes, 501 in Adana Sarıçam, 518 in Hatay Altınözü, 534 in Kahramanmaraş Afşin, 2 in Pazarcık, 507 in Şanlıurfa Birecik, and we started the construction phase. The contract period for the construction period of our 400 village houses in Gaziantep, Araman, Karkamış, Nizip, Oğuzeli, Yavuzeli and central districts, 821 houses in Hatay Payas, 492 houses in İskenderun, and 599 houses in Malatya Battalgazi has started. Again, in Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Şanlıurfa and Malatya, the tenders of our 2 thousand 312 houses in total, 2 in Diyarbakır Kayapınar, 663 in Kahramanmaraş Dulkadiroğlu, 595 in Malatya Doğanşehir, Osmaniye Toprakkale. Minister Kurum said that they also consulted on temporary and permanent structures in organized industrial zones, and that they would give all kinds of support as a ministry regarding this.

Stating that the restoration of the damaged historical and cultural structures will be carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Minister Kurum said, "We will restore the whole city, the new Hatay, with its cultural texture." said.

The Minister Institution stated that they will include the buildings that should be included in the urban transformation project area with the new design, in line with the needs of the city, even if they are not damaged in all earthquake zones.

Pointing out that Turkey is a country of earthquakes and that 140 people have been lost in earthquakes to date, the Minister Kurum said, “We have to carry out the urban transformation process with the understanding of mobilization so that the same suffering does not happen again. We all have to carry out our determination here by taking the responsibility.” he said.

Stating that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will announce important projects in this regard in the coming days, Minister Kurum stated that these projects include financial support in urban transformation and targets for earthquake transformation in the Marmara region.

“There are 1,5 reserve areas in Istanbul where we will transform 2 million risky residences”

Minister Kurum also touched upon the risky structures in Istanbul and said, "There are 1,5 million independent departments in Istanbul that need to be transformed, and 300 thousand of these need to be transformed as soon as possible. we have projects. There are 94 reserve areas where we will transform risky 1,5 million residences. In Istanbul, we will move 2 million risky residences in the city to 1,5 reserve areas that we have determined on both the Anatolian and European sides.” said.

Emphasizing that they will continue their urban transformation projects in all earthquake zones, the Minister Kurum stated that the national and spatial strategy plans have been completed and that they will take steps to strengthen the industrial areas against earthquakes with new logistics routes within the framework of this plan.
