Is Marienne Dying?

When Marienne sees Joe in London, she realizes he's the kind of person who would never let him go. She tries to run but catches up with him. She claims that she is a better person than she love draws. She lets Marienne go, She later arrives at the train station, where he drugs her and takes her captive. It gets worse when Joe's personality splits in two. Wanting to let him go is repressed, and Marienne is forced to deal with the evil side that will keep her in a cage for the rest of her life.

Without Nadia, Marienne would have died in the cage without anyone knowing what had happened to her. Nadia was suspicious of Joe, so she broke into his apartment and found a key and eventually took it to the abandoned building where Marienne was held captive. Nadia wanted to release him immediately, but Marienne was smarter than that. She knew that running away wouldn't do her any good. Joe would still go after her, and she would never be safe.

Marienne also knew that getting the cops in wouldn't help much, because the moment Joe found out, she would just disappear and bring her situation back to square one. The only solution was to kill him. When Nadia proposes it, Marienne agrees to do whatever it takes to eliminate her. They have an edge over Joe because he doesn't know that Nadia knows. The women plan to surprise him. They would beat him by giving him medicine. Nadia sets up ketamine and Marienne agrees to kill her with a knife.

This plan fails when Nadia is caught carrying a knife on the subway. She is detained all day for missing the window to carry out the plan. Luckily, they found a Plan B. If they couldn't kill Joe, the only way to stop him from calling Marienne was to kill him. If he believed she was dead, he would stop his research. Joe had given Marienne some pills to relieve her pain. Nadia replaced him with heartbeat-lowering pills so he could look dead. When Nadia doesn't come with the knife, Marienne implements plan B.

The plan works, and Joe believes Marienne, heartbroken by the loss of her daughter once again, has taken an overdose of pills. In another case, he could have gotten rid of the body by cutting it up or burying it where no one could find it. In Marienne's case, things are different. She didn't want him dead; she wanted to release him. He wanted his daughter to be reunited. If he got rid of Marienne, his daughter would never find out what had happened to him. She would grow up believing her mother had abandoned her. Joe knew what it felt like to grow up like that. He didn't want the same for Marienne's daughter.

Joe leaves Marienne's body in a deserted place where someone can find it. Believing that the Marienne chapter of her life is over, she walks away from the scene. Nadia was following him unknowingly. The moment he leaves, he brings Marienne back to life. She worried that Marienne might have taken too many pills or reacted differently to them. It might have killed her, but Marienne was ready to seize this chance to secure her freedom.

Now that she no longer has to worry about Joe, Marienne returns to Paris and is reunited with her daughter. Some time later, he finds news about Joe, who is now with Kate and gets another chance at life by deleting what happened at Madre Linda. Marienne makes fun of her new start, knowing that she's not the one who will never change. It's unclear if she knows about Nadia, but by the end of Season 4, Marienne is safe and sound, away from Joe and his bloody plans.
