In cooperation with Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hospital and Ümraniye District Directorate of National Education, a seminar titled Special Learning Difficulties was given to the 'Guidance Teacher' group working in the schools in the district.

Teachers showed great interest in the seminar held at NPİSTANBUL Hospital Çamlıca Conference Hall. In the seminar attended by 90 teachers, Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hospital Specialist Clinical Psychologist Elvin Akı Konuk gave information about special learning difficulties and answered the questions of the guidance teachers.

Specific learning disability is a neurodevelopmental disorder

Specialist Clinical Psychologist Elvin Aki Konuk, who noted that special learning disability is defined as "a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes a person to perform below expectations in reading, writing or math skills compared to their peers and intelligence", said, "Children's intelligence levels are normal or above normal, due to different physiological and sensory reasons. unaffected by environmental and cultural differences.” said.

Children should be evaluated in the school setting

Noting that children should be evaluated by teachers in the school environment, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Elvin Akı Konuk said, “Among the issues to be considered in the evaluation process, attention should be paid to situations such as understanding reading and evaluating written expression, evaluating mathematical skills, distinguishing individual differences, and behavioral and social skills. Such situations can be noticed by teachers and parents should be informed. The most basic approach to take in such cases is; It is to create a family-teacher relationship and communication”.
