Muhsin Koçaslan, Member of the BTSO Board of Directors, said that the conditions for ensuring vital safety and preventing losses should be created together. TOBB HRH President Levent Korkut, on the other hand, pointed out that many buildings do not have earthquake guarantees during his examinations in the disaster area.

The Extended Sectoral Analysis Meeting of the 53rd Professional Committee, which included representatives of the insurance industry, was held at the BTSO Chamber Service Building. The meeting, where the current problems of the insurance sector and the studies on the earthquake region were evaluated, BTSO Board Member Muhsin Koçaslan, Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) President Mehmet Akif Eroğlu, Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK) General Manager Selva Eren, Turkey Chambers and The Association of Exchanges Insurance Agencies Executive Committee (TOBB SAİK) Chairman Levent Korkut, Turkish Insurance Agents Federation (TÜSAF) Chairman Adnan Çelik and BTSO Assembly and Committee Members attended.

“The Key to Sustainable Economy”

BTSO Board Member Muhsin Koçaslan said that the earthquake was a common problem for all of Turkey. Stating that the conditions for providing vital safety and preventing losses in an earthquake should be created together, Koçaslan said, “Turkey has a growing economy centered on the private sector. The driving force of investment, exports and employment is our private sector. Insurance of economic assets in our country is critical for the healthy development of our private sector. Insuring infrastructure assets as well as factories, machinery and other assets owned by companies will make economic activities sustainable.” said.

“Insurance is a Partner of Risk, Not Profit”

“A strong insurance sector is needed for effective risk management in this age where the number and variety of risks we face is increasing day by day. A strong insurance industry is the key to a stable development process.” Using his expressions, Koçaslan continued: “I invite all our companies, especially our SMEs, which are the dynamo of social and economic life, to benefit from the assurance provided by insurance activities, which are partners of risk, not profit. I believe that we will create an important awareness on this issue with the 'Extended Sectoral Analysis Meeting' of our 53rd Professional Committee.”

A Matter of Survival for Our Country

SEDDK President Mehmet Akif Eroğlu started his speech by thanking BTSO for the organization. Expressing that they once again saw the importance of the insurance industry with the disaster experienced, Eroğlu said, “We have learned important lessons from the disaster we experienced. We need to establish an 'Earthquake Research Commission', which will include all the heads of insurance institutions. Insurance is a matter of survival for our country. Currently, the damage we expect from the earthquake zone is 76 billion liras. We will meet 3 billion of this from the equity of the sector. In addition, we need to talk about the fire together with the earthquake agenda. One out of every two SMEs in Türkiye does not have a fire policy. We urgently need to resolve these issues.” he said.

Extraordinary Management Center from TCIP

TCIP General Manager Selva Eren gave information about the projects they have realized as an institution. Eren said, “In case of any damage to the building, the system was not functioning properly when the citizen wanted to reach TCIP via e-government or website. Today, we have made TCIP simultaneously receive unlimited notifications and open 24 thousand files within 96 hours. Apart from these, we opened the 'Extraordinary Management Center'. Our main goal in this project, too, was a step taken when our teams, which we established in Ankara, carried out the operation completely from Ankara in the event of a major earthquake. Unfortunately, we experience how important these projects are through the disasters that have taken place.” said.

“Many Buildings Have No Earthquake Coverage”

TOBB HRH President Levent Korkut said that earthquake planning should be designed very well. Korkut stated that they were well aware of the great support given by insurance companies to the agencies, but that the risks should not be limited to traffic insurance only. Also, most of them do not have earthquake insurance. In many files, there are policies of 20-30 square meters, made only for the purpose of completing documents. It was seen once again in the earthquake that we are the complement of all sectors. We must ensure that banks, financial institutions, agencies and other intermediaries better understand their business models and responsibilities in this regard and that the system is adequacy.” he said.

“TCIP Policies Issued with Missing Square Meters”

Adnan Çelik, Chairman of the Board of TÜSAF, said, “The unprecedented great disaster in history has deeply saddened us all and left scars that cannot be erased from our memories. When we consulted with our colleagues within the scope of our visits to the earthquake area, we unfortunately witnessed the TCIP policies that were deliberately and intentionally issued with missing square meters. Even if it is the customer who requests these missing square meters to be made, the insurance agency should try to convince the truth of the matter, never accept it and should not be under this responsibility.”

After the opening speeches, BTSO 53rd Professional Committee Chairman Abdullah Çelik, who made the presentation of "Insurance Data", said "Basic Agency Data Countrywide", "Bursa Agency Data", "Production Share of Distribution Channels", "Agency Production Rates", "Mandatory Traffic Insurance Data". ', gave information to the participants under the headings of 'Fire Insurance Data'.
