The "Children's Workshop", which was held in cooperation with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and UNICEF, within the scope of the preparations for the Second Century Economics Congress to be held in Izmir on March 15-21, completed its second day. A 10-item action plan will be drawn from the ideas that emerged at the end of the two-day workshop. The plan will contribute to the outputs of the Second Century Economics Congress.

The preparatory meetings of the Second Century Economics Congress, which was postponed to March 6-2023 after the great earthquake disaster on February 15, 21, continue with workshops and forums. The "Children's Workshop", one of the preparatory works of the congress, which set out with the slogan "We are building the Turkey of the Future", was organized in cooperation with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and UNICEF (United Nations Children's Aid Fund).

Children learn economics and budget management

Children between the ages of 7 and 14 who participated in the Children's Workshop met again on the second day of the workshop, discussed the concept of “economics” and experienced budget management with different activities. In the workshop, issues such as the budgets allocated by local governments to citizens and children and the areas of use of these budgets were discussed.

Children divided into six different groups; He developed different projects on earthquake preparedness, green space design, special areas and clubs for children, children working on the street, animal shelters and area design for the disabled. Then, the children learned budget management by investing in the projects they want with the game money given to them. The pictures in which the children introduce their projects will be exhibited at the Second Century Economics Congress to be held on March 15-21.

The second session of the workshop will be held on February 11 with children aged 12-18. A 10-item action plan will be drawn from the ideas that emerged during the workshop. The action plan will contribute to the outputs of the Second Century Economics Congress.

Economic Congress of the Second Century, March 15-21

The Second Century Economics Congress, a civil, transparent and fully participatory initiative, will be held between 15-21 March 2023. At the end of the congress, policy proposals that will shape the new century will be shared with all of Turkey.

The program of the Second Century Economics Congress, which will last for seven days, includes main sessions, delegate meetings, forums and artistic activities.

Comprehensive negotiations on the long-term consequences of the devastation caused by the 6 February 2023 earthquake were included in the congress program. Sessions on many topics such as creating cities that are compatible with nature and resistant to disasters and disaster management were added to the program.
