The evaluation meeting on the education and training processes planned to be started on March 27 in Hatay was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer with the participation of city and education administrators.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer chaired the evaluation meeting regarding the educational activities carried out in the city at Hatay AFAD Coordination Center and the education and training process planned to be launched on 27 March.

Hatay Coordinator Governor, Kütahya Governor Ali Çelik, Hatay Deputy Governor Oğuzhan Bingöl, Hatay Deputies Hüseyin Yayman and Sabahat Özgürsoy Çelik, Deputy Ministers Petek Aşkar and Sadri Şensoy, Basic Education General Manager Tuncay Morkoç, Secondary Education General Manager Halil İbrahim Topçu, Education and Training Chairman of the Board Cihad Demirli, General Director of Private Education Institutions Mustafa Gelen, Provincial Director of National Education Mustafa Öztürk and district national education directors attended.

Stating that they are working with all their strength to ensure that children in the disaster area continue their education and that they have made the education plan by dividing the cities into three categories, Minister Özer said in his statement after the meeting:

“The provinces of Kilis, Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa were in the first category. We started education in these provinces as of March 1, and thus, 1 million 236 thousand 929 students and teachers met with education in these provinces. In the second category, there were the provinces of Gaziantep, Osmaniye and Adana. As of March 13, we started education for the second semester in Gaziantep, Osmaniye and Adana provinces. Approximately 1 million 258 thousand 719 students started their education here. Therefore, 71 provinces, six provinces in the first and second categories, and a total of 77 provinces continue their education as of now. A total of 17 million 737 thousand 648 students continue their education in these provinces.”

Stating that approximately 252 thousand students who were transferred from the provinces in the earthquake zone to other provinces started education together with their peers, Minister Özer pointed out that in the third and last category, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Malatya and Hatay were the most affected by the earthquake. “After extensive consultations with our Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Interior, governors, district governors, all our deputies, provincial national education directors, and district national education directors, we decided to start education gradually in our four provinces in the third category.” said Ozer; He stated that education will start gradually and peacefully in healthy districts and schools, not in all schools, as in the other six provinces of Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Malatya and Hatay.
