Küçükçekmece Municipality brought together the photographs of Republican women who broke new ground in art, sports and science, left their mark on history, created themselves and produced social benefits, in the exhibition titled “Woman Face of the Republic” on the 100th anniversary of the Republic. Küçükçekmece Mayor Kemal Çebi, Küçükçekmece Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Director Güney Özkılınç, Women's Works Library Coordinator Hülya İskender, Exhibition Curator Assoc. Dr. Sevgi Uçan Çubukçu and many art lovers attended. The exhibition will host art lovers until April 16.

Chairman Cebi: “You will witness who founded the struggle for equality”

Speaking at the opening, Mayor Kemal Cebi said, “While we were preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our Republic with great enthusiasm, we experienced great pain and sadness as a country due to the earthquakes and flood disasters we experienced on February 6 and afterwards. I wish God's mercy on thousands of our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake. Vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly and the disabled were more affected by the earthquake, and the importance of inclusion and gender equality came to the fore once again. On March 8, International Women's Day, all our female managers came together with the women in Hatay Samandag, talked to each other, sohbet and distributed hygiene packages. We continue to support the region in terms of shelter, psychological support, food, clothing, hygiene and self-care. In this exhibition, we will witness together who founded the struggle for equality.” he said.

Stating that the Women's Works Library is Turkey's first and only woman-centered archive and library, Exhibition Curator Assoc. Dr. Sevgi Uçan Çubukçu, on the other hand, said, “The contribution of women as a social group to this democratization effort has not always been very visible during the development and urbanization process that we call modernization in the 100th anniversary of the Republic. We wanted to make visible the contribution made by women with the documents in our archives in this exhibition.”

Photographs taken from the archives and collections of the Women's Works Library and Information Center Foundation were brought together as a rich selection in the “Woman Face of the Republic” exhibition. The exhibition, presented by Küçükçekmece Municipality to all women who have been made invisible all over Turkey, also serves as an 'invitation' to place women's existence in memories and transfer it to new generations. The exhibition, which is important in terms of women's struggle against their invisibility in history in the fields of education and work, as well as revealing the success of women in every field of society with the Republic, hosts 150 works of art.
