Alstom celebrates its 1000th tram built in Vienna. Alstom, formerly Bombardier, has built 1990 modern trams in Vienna since 1000 for global customers stretching from Austria to Australia. “We are proud to be celebrating the 1000th tram from our Vienna production facility today,” said Jörg Nikutta, Managing Director of Alstom Austria. “Our trams are shaping cityscapes around the world and they are truly Viennese.”

“As the city councilor in charge of economic affairs, I am particularly pleased that our environmentally friendly public transport trams are 'Made in Vienna' at Alstom. Vienna travelers can look forward to more modern vehicles that can complete their entire journey safely and cleanly. Since production takes place here in Donaustadt, these orders naturally create employment in Vienna as a workplace and create added value there,” says Peter Hanke, City Councilor for Finance and Economic Affairs.

The 1000th tram is a Flexity Vienna for Wiener Linien and will soon be in daily service for Viennese with accurate signage. “Wiener Linien is constantly renewing its vehicle fleet, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and accessibility. Flexity Vienna will replace the latest high-floor tram models in the coming years, thus making the public transport system barrier-free. “Two more lines will be added during the year, with lines 46 and 49 on five lines,” says Gudrun Senk, General Manager of Wiener Linien Technical Department, Construction and Facility Management (CTO).

Ernst Nevrivy, regional leader of Vienna's 22nd district, said: “Alstom is an important company for the Donaustadt workplace with the potential to continue to be one of the most successful companies in the region in the future.” The Vienna facility is Alstom's global competence center for trams and light rail vehicles and employs around 800 people covering the entire value chain from initial contact with the customer to development, assembly, component manufacturing and post-commissioning support. Worldwide, there are only ten of the 140 Alstom locations playing such a role.
