Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said that in order to provide healthy nutrition needs of students who suffered from the earthquake and to prevent the canteen shopkeepers from being adversely affected, school canteen rental fees will not be charged in Adıyaman, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş and Malatya, and a discount will be applied for other provinces in the earthquake region.
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer received the President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken.
During the meeting, where the problems of the school canteen shopkeepers in the earthquake area were also discussed, TESK President Palandöken stated that the canteens in the region had problems after the earthquake and that they wanted to arrange rent for the school canteens.
Minister Özer reminded that they decided to fix the rent increase for the school canteen to 2022 percent during the 2023-25 academic year in June.
Stating that the letter about the new school canteen arrangement was sent to the provinces, Özer reminded that education was suspended in the schools in the region after the earthquake and said the following regarding the arrangement: “We are gradually opening our schools in the region so that life can become as normal as possible after the deep pain we have been through. The rents of places such as canteens in the schools and institutions affiliated to our Ministry located in Adana, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Gaziantep, Kilis, Osmaniye and Şanlıurfa provinces, which are declared as disaster areas, and in the town of Sivas province, such as canteens, ensuring the healthy nutrition needs of our students who are victimized by the earthquake and preventing the canteen shopkeepers from being adversely affected. will be subject to a discount by the appraised price determination commission for the purpose. In the event that education starts in Adıyaman, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş and Malatya, which were most affected by the earthquake, the rental fees of canteen places in schools and institutions affiliated to our Ministry in these provinces will not be collected until the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year.
In addition, Özer stated that the lease agreement can be mutually terminated if requested, "In case our canteen operators in schools located in provinces/districts declared as disaster areas demand mutual termination of canteen rental agreements due to the effects of the disaster, this request will be deemed appropriate and mutual termination procedures will be carried out. No penal sanctions will be imposed for this reason.” He used his expressions.
