Turkish Ophthalmology Association supports all ophthalmologists affected by the earthquake to continue their education, especially the training of assistants and specialists working in the Department of Ophthalmology at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital and Çukurova University Medical Faculty Balcalı Hospital, which were evacuated within the scope of earthquake precautions. .

Turkish Ophthalmology Association (TOD) President Prof. Dr. Ziya Kapran stated that they have been continuing their support activities in the disaster area since the first day after the earthquake that affected 11 provinces. In this context, adding containers to Adıyaman University Faculty of Medicine and material support to Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, he added, “Now, our Turkish Ophthalmology Association Training Center (TODEM) department has been working in Cerrahpaşa and Balcalı Hospital, which were evacuated in Istanbul and Adana. It provides support for all ophthalmologists affected by the earthquake to continue their education, especially the assistants and specialist doctors who are working in the field.” said.

“Cerrahpaşa is the first eye specialization department of our country”

prof. Dr. Ziya Kapran stated that the evacuated Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology was the first eye-specializing hospital in Turkey, and drew attention to the fact that it is an important center where patients from both a big city like Istanbul and all Turkey and surrounding countries, especially the Marmara region, find healing. . Reminding that many eye patients living in Southern and Southeastern Anatolia regions are treated at Adana Balcalı Hospital, in addition to the eye training given by senior lecturers, Prof. Dr. Kapran said, “Through TODEMs, we are starting the training activities in order for all our colleagues affected by the earthquake to continue their education and to continue their professional development without interruption, as well as the assistants and specialist ophthalmologists working in these two hospitals. Since 2016, we have been speeding up the trainings we call the Skills Transfer Course (BAK) by giving priority to the ophthalmologists affected by the earthquake at the training centers in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Bursa.” said.
