UTIKAD General Manager Alperen Güler said, “You can transport many times more by rail than you can transport by road. If the railway could be used effectively, it would have been affected by the traffic in the least way. At least the open lines can be evaluated.”

Alperen Güler, General Manager of UTIKAD, said, “The highway is mainly used, but the coordination needs to be set up correctly here. Our nation is sending aid materials to the disaster area by showing great sensitivity; however, according to the latest information we have obtained, the sent vehicles have difficulties in advancing after Konya. There are long queues of vehicles on the roads. In addition, there is a need for equipment for the unloading of the arriving vehicles. It also takes a long time for the vehicles to wait here due to the lack of equipment. We know that there are difficulties in returning," he said.

Emphasizing the necessity of organizing the use of the railway, Güler participated in the Bloomberg HT broadcast, “The railway is not affected by the negative effects on the highway. In fact, this has shown us the need for efficient use of all transportation routes, including sea, iron, air and land, in such disasters.”

Stating that it is possible to reach Kayseri, Sivas, Elazığ and Konya by rail, Güler said, “The major problem in transportation is due to weather conditions. The advantage of using the railway is that it is the mode of transport that is least affected by these adverse conditions. You can transport many times more by rail than you can transport by road. If the railway could be used effectively, it would have been affected by the traffic in the least way. At least the open lines can be evaluated.”
