Decaying Observation Terraces in Konak are being dismantled

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started the dismantling of the three viewing terraces between Konak Pier and Passport Ferry Pier, which put the lives and property of citizens at risk by rotting under the influence of sea water.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has started the dismantling of the three viewing terraces, which are located between Konak Pier and Passport Ferry Pier, and the steel construction and wooden sections of which have been rotting due to the effect of sea water in recent years. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality took security measures for the viewing terraces, which were put into service in 2002 but were not renovated due to a court decision to demolish them, and surrounded the viewing terraces with concrete barriers and steel wires.

Despite the security measures, the teams of the Department of Science Affairs started the dismantling process today so that the viewing terraces, which continue to be used especially by citizens who fish, do not cause loss of life and property. Three observation decks will be completely removed from the shore.
