Kılıçtaroğlu Shared the Pain of Disaster Victims of Citizens

CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu and 5 Metropolitan Mayors shared the pain of citizens in Adana, İskenderun and Hatay, which were heavily damaged in the earthquake. An earthquake victim's crying, hugging Kılıçdaroğlu and İmamoğlu, saying that his family members were under the rubble, caused emotional moments. Kılıçdaroğlu and İmamoğlu came together in the garden of the Hatay Fire Department, which was also damaged in the earthquake, by the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, Lütfü Savaş, in the disaster-stricken Hatay. Stressing that Turkey is an earthquake zone, Kılıçdaroğlu said, “Therefore, the government must act knowing this fact. The state mind demands it. Bureaucracy demands it. Governing the state requires it. Because in an environment without these, there is chaos,” he said. Imamoglu, who received information about the work from the IMM teams working in the region in Samandag, said, “We will increase the number of teams and equipment in the disaster area. I will come to the region again at the weekend” and wished success to his colleagues.

CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu came to Adana to inspect the disaster areas whose epicenters are in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş, which were shaken by the 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes. CHP Deputy Chairman Seyit Torun, Selin Sayek Böke, Murat Minister, IMM President, in the investigations of Kılıçdaroğlu in the earthquake zone Ekrem İmamoğlu, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality Zeydan Karalar, Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Muhittin Böcek and Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer. The first address of Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu and their delegation, who landed at Adana Airport from Ankara, was Adana Metropolitan Municipality. Kılıçdaroğlu and the mayors of the metropolitan municipality, who made an assessment of the situation closed to the media with their staff and metropolitan mayors, made investigations at a point close to the wreckage of a building on Süleyman Demirel Boulevard, which was destroyed in the earthquake, in a tour minibus. Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu and their delegation, who received the earthquake balance sheet in Adana from Karalar, set out for İskenderun.

WATER, BREAD, FOOD AND BLANKET REQUEST FROM THE MAYOR OF ISKENDERUN

Witnessing the ongoing fire in Iskenderun Port, the delegation also examined Iskenderun, which was flooded with the rising sea and the explosion of the sewer system. It was noteworthy that the citizens were trying to leave the district in a panic, and therefore, the traffic density occurred from time to time. Stating that they have been trying to work without sleep since the first earthquake, Iskenderun Mayor Fatih Tosyalı said; Kılıçdaroğlu hosted İmamoğlu and their accompanying delegation in the city hall, where cracks were observed on the walls. Sharing information about the earthquake balance sheet in the district with Kılıçdaroğlu and his delegation, Tosyalı thanked all public and volunteer search and rescue teams who came to work on the debris. As a district with a population of approximately 260 thousand, Tosyalı listed their priority demands as water, bread, food and blankets.

EARTHQUAKE Victim's riot: "HE SAYS 'SAVE ME', HE SAYS 'Isn't there anyone'…”

After the municipality visit, Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu and the mayors of the metropolitan municipality, who witnessed the debris removal works in the district, which was heavily damaged in the earthquake, shared the pain of the earthquake victims. An earthquake victim's crying, hugging Kılıçdaroğlu and İmamoğlu, saying that his family members were under the rubble, caused emotional moments. Stating that the people are in a difficult situation, the bitter citizens expressed their feelings, “People are trying to do something here with their own efforts. Help came just this morning," he said. Kılıçdaroğlu said, "I don't want to say anything in this warm environment," and said, "We came with our mayors. We are all here together. There are great troubles; I know too. You are alive, and I suffer from it. This nation is in so much pain… Anyway. Don't get discouraged. I know there are people who lost their lives. After all, your pain is in our hearts too. I know that too. Being human and suffering so much… It's hard. Are you waiting? You hear the child's voice… (He says 'Save me'. He says 'Isn't there anyone'.) It is very difficult”.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO SEE THE TRACES OF THE DISASTER EVERYWHERE IN HATAY

Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu and their delegation's next stop after İskenderun was Hatay, which experienced the disaster literally. The traces of the disaster began to make itself felt from the entrance to the province of Hatay. More than half of the structures seen along the road were either completely or partially destroyed. Hatay's Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, whose industrial site at the entrance of the city was completely destroyed, had to host Kılıçdaroğlu and his colleagues in a gazebo in the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department, which was damaged in the earthquake. Stating that the city was exposed to a great wash, Savaş emphasized that they had difficulty even determining the dimensions of the disaster. The war underlined that the city needed every help that could come.

KILIÇDAROĞLU: “WISH THE SOLDIERS CAN FULLY MOBILE ON THE FIRST DAY”

Speaking after the war, Kılıçdaroğlu also used the following statements:

“I wish the soldiers could be fully mobilized on the first day. If everyone could do what they need to do on the first day, if necessary instructions were given in this regard. And we know they are not. We know the difficulties. We have seen it ourselves, we have experienced it ourselves. We listened to the citizens. But despite all that, Mr. President, I want you to be sure that we have mayors here as well: If they are not blocked, they will send you much more help than you think. They are already sending. Sometimes their vehicles can be stopped on the way, sometimes they say 'No, don't send this. Send this somewhere else,' he comes with instructions. Of course, what lies in our hearts is a wide geography from Adıyaman to Şanlıurfa to Hatay, wherever Turkey's disaster area is, and a healthy coordination within this geography is required. There had to be a coordination, and within this framework, rescue teams also need to reach the regions.”

“IN AN ENVIRONMENT WITH NO GOVERNMENT MIND, THERE IS CHAOS”

“There is a problem, I know. But despite all this, if our mayors are not hindered, if the obstacles in front of them are removed, if they are allowed to move freely, many regions, not only in Hatay, but also in many regions from Şanlıurfa to Adıyaman, from Diyarbakır to Diyarbakır. both access and food opportunities can be provided in the region. A mother in Iskenderun shouts, "I can't find food for my child." Yes, can't find it. Of course, the fact that the season is winter is a separate problem. It is necessary to dwell on that problem. The essence of the matter is this: Turkey is an earthquake zone and therefore the government, that is, those who are currently ruling the country, act knowing this fact, make investments knowing this fact, make plans and programs knowing this fact, and determine the rules for the construction of buildings knowing this fact, Knowing this fact, carrying out inspections, knowing this fact and having vehicles prepared for earthquakes in certain regions… The state's mind requires this. Bureaucracy demands it. Governing the state requires it. Because in an environment without these, there is chaos.”

The last stop of the first day of Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu and their delegation in the earthquake zone was the Samandağ district of Hatay. While Kılıçdaroğlu was meeting with the gendarmerie officials, İmamoğlu received information about the work from the İBB teams working in the region. Stating that they will increase the number of teams and equipment in the disaster area, İmamoğlu noted that he will conduct inspections in the provinces and districts damaged by the earthquake at the weekend.
