Emirates is taking another important step towards restoring Australian capacity, increasing its services to two key cities Sydney and Melbourne. The airline is also restarting flights to Christchurch, New Zealand via Sydney, offering Australian passengers a new way of travel on the trans-Tasman route.

Emirates will increase the number of daily flights between Dubai and Melbourne from two to three with connecting flights between Dubai and Melbourne from 26 March, and will begin operating a third direct flight to Sydney from 1 May. The airline has recently announced that it will operate two daily flights to Brisbane from 1 June. With this huge leap forward at a busy time in airline travel, Emirates remains committed to increasing its flights to and from Australia. Both flights will be operated with a three-class Boeing-777 300ER offering Economy, Business and First Class cabins.

By mid-year, Emirates will reach 63 flights per week to Australia and will have the capacity to carry over 55 passengers per week from major cities. Flights to Melbourne and Sydney will reach pre-pandemic levels, marking a major milestone in the airline's efforts to reinstate flights to Australia. The increase in capacity will support tourism revitalization by providing passengers with more connectivity to and from Australia, as well as strengthen trade and business opportunities thanks to the large 777-tonne cargo capacity offered by the Boeing 300-22ER.

With the third relaunched Dubai-Melbourne service, Emirates offers a new connection option between Singapore and Melbourne, meeting the strong demand between the two cities, as well as offering its passengers exclusive products and services that have become its signature and stand out with its difference. The Sydney connecting flight to Christchurch will begin on March 26, giving passengers the opportunity to travel between the two cities on Emirates' flagship A380 aircraft.

Adnan Kazım, Commercial Affairs Director of Emirates Airline, made the following statement on the subject:

“We have been flying to Australia for over 1996 years, from our first flight to Melbourne in 25. During this time, we have proudly carried over 40 million passengers and continued our flights to Australia during the pandemic. Our flights continue to be in great demand and we are working hard to offer Australians and our passengers more travel options, including services like our new Premium Economy Class cabin. Australia is one of the first markets to offer Premium Economy class.”

Lorie Argus, CEO of Melbourne Airport, said:

“The extra capacity on offer stands out as a great improvement for passengers these days when we are facing strong travel demand from Melbourne to Europe and Asia. Increasing the capacity will also delight Victorian exporters with the additional cargo opportunities offered by the Boeing 777-300 model aircraft to Asia and the Middle East.”
