TURKSTAT Announces Death and Cause of Death Statistics for 2020 and 2021

Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the death statistics. While 2019 thousand people died in 435, 2020 thousand 507 people died in 938, when the coronavirus pandemic was effective, and 2021 thousand 565 people died in 594.

While 2020% of the deceased were men and 56,0% were women in 44,0, 2021% of the people who died in 54,6 were men and 45,4% were women.

Crude death rate was 6,7 per thousand

Crude death rate, which expresses the number of deaths per thousand people, was 2020 per thousand in 6,1 and 2021 per thousand in 6,7. In other words, while there were 2020 deaths per thousand people in 6,1, there were 2021 deaths per thousand people in 6,7.

The provinces with the highest crude death rate were Sinop and Kastamonu with 12,7 per thousand.

Diseases originating from the circulatory system ranked first among the causes of death.

When deaths were analyzed according to their causes, circulatory system diseases took the first place with 2021% in 33,4. This cause of death was followed by benign and malignant tumors with 14,0% and respiratory system diseases with 13,4%.

Ischemic heart disease accounted for 41,8% of deaths caused by circulatory system diseases.

When deaths from circulatory system diseases were analyzed according to the lower causes of death, it was seen that 41,8% of the deaths were due to ischemic heart diseases, 23,3% were due to other heart diseases, and 18,9% were due to cerebro-vascular diseases.

Afyonkarahisar became the province with the highest number of deaths due to circulatory system diseases.

When the deaths from circulatory system diseases are analyzed by provinces, Afyonkarahisar was the province with the highest death rate due to circulatory system diseases in 2021 with 43,4%. This province was followed by Aydın with 43,1%, Çanakkale with 42,0% and Balıkesir with 40,2%. The province with the lowest mortality rate due to circulatory system diseases was Kayseri with 26,1%. This province was followed by Istanbul with 27,4%, Kocaeli with 27,6%, Muş and Eskişehir with 28,3%.

Larynx and trachea/bronchus/lung tumors caused the most deaths from tumors.

When deaths from benign and malignant tumors are analyzed according to sub-causes of death, 29,7% of the deaths are due to malignant tumors of the larynx and trachea/bronchus/lung, 7,7% are due to lymphoid and hematopoietic malignant tumors, and 7,6%. It was seen that the patient died from malignant tumors of the stomach and colon.

Ankara was the province with the highest number of deaths from benign and malignant tumors with 17,8%.

When deaths from benign and malignant tumors were analyzed by province, Ankara was the province with the highest death rate from benign and malignant tumors in 2021 with 17,8%. Kars was followed by 17,2%, Tekirdağ with 17,1%, and Iğdır with 17,0. The province with the lowest mortality rate from benign and malignant tumors was Kilis with 7,9%. This province was followed by Şanlıurfa with 8,7%, Siirt with 8,9% and Gaziantep with 9,0%.
