The great earthquake that occurred in Turkey and the Syrian border region caused serious loss of life and property. Search and rescue efforts, in which many countries participate, continue uninterrupted. The photo of two siblings who were left under the rubble in Syria started to attract attention on social media.

The photo shared by UN Economic and Social Council Representative Mohammad Safa on his Twitter account was taken by the search and rescue team. The 7-year-old girl and her younger sister were trapped under the rubble for 17 hours. The girl protected her little brother's head with her hand.

The photo of the two children was shared widely on social media. The two children survived and were taken to the hospital. But thousands of Syrians lost their lives in the earthquake.

This disaster is both natural and man-made.

“Sanctions prevented aid,” Syrian earthquake survivors say.

After the earthquake, the US stressed that they would not lift sanctions on Syria and that the sanction would not prevent humanitarian aid shipments to Syria. In the statement made by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the expression "The USA is lying, the photos in the disaster area do not lie".

Since they do not have the equipment and supplies, the Syrians are digging the debris with their hands. Most of the time, they are powerless in the face of iron and steel-filled debris. Since the Syrian search and rescue team did not have the necessary equipment, they could not save the people under the rubble. Search-and-rescue time is double the normal.

Since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, wars and conflicts have been causing great damage to this country. The sanctions imposed by Western countries, led by the USA, caused the collapse of the Syrian economy and the lives of people devastated.

In the cold days of winter, the lifting of the sanction became the hope of the Syrian earthquake victims in desperate days.

Syria is experiencing a serious disaster. Barriers from the United States and Western countries seriously slowed down the efforts to combat the disaster. If American politicians still have a conscience, they should respond positively to the voices of the victims in Syria and facilitate their access to this country's relief supplies, instead of offering vain condolences.
