Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, continues to work to determine the areas where permanent residences will be built by going to the provinces affected by the earthquake from Gaziantep, where he is the coordinator, after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, which are described as the “disaster of the century”. Emphasizing every time that the most accurate and solid ground will be determined with scientific reports, the construction of the residences will be started, Minister Kurum stated that they act in line with the decisions taken jointly with provincial administrators, mayors, representatives of non-governmental organizations, scientists and academicians regarding new settlements. Minister Kurum emphasized that the first criterion when determining new settlements is the distance to the fault lines.

Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum continues to work uninterruptedly within the scope of the largest disaster housing mobilization in the history of the Republic, which will be launched in 11 provinces affected by the earthquake.

The Minister Institution organized coordination meetings during his daily visits from Gaziantep, where he was the coordinating Minister, to the provinces affected by the earthquake. Minister Murat Kurum, who came together with provincial administrators, mayors, representatives of non-governmental organizations and academicians at the meetings, consulted on new settlement areas. In this context, the determinations regarding the new settlements of the cities were determined in line with the decisions taken jointly at the coordination meetings. The first criterion when determining new settlements was the distance to the fault lines. Again, micro-zoning and ground survey studies are carried out by examining in detail in the places determined within the scope of detailed geological survey studies. Ground surveys are carried out in 11 provinces in the earthquake zone, and the pieces taken are examined and it is determined whether the ground is suitable for housing construction.

“The most accurate and solid ground will be determined with scientific reports and the construction of the houses will be started accordingly”

In his statements, the Minister Institution underlined that the floors, including the new fractures caused by the earthquake, were examined in every detail, and emphasized that after the studies, the most accurate and solid ground would be determined with scientific reports and the construction of the houses would be started accordingly.

Minister Kurum used the following expressions in his statements: “We have started planning with the understanding that the city will live its 50 years, 100 years, all its needs, the culture of this place, and to do better and better. We are also working on a new master plan for places severely damaged by the earthquake. Within the framework of this master plan study, we have started a joint work with all our architects in Turkey, together with the most prominent in this business, with an understanding to include the needs of our citizens and our city.

In this context, we examine the ground with all its details, including new fractures caused by the earthquake, with micro-zonation and detailed geological survey reports, with our instructors, geologists, geophysicists and engineers. By choosing to build on the most correct and solid ground and according to that ground, we will be carrying out the construction process of our houses, which will not exceed the ground plus 3-4 floors, in accordance with the local architecture, with the tunnel formwork system on the radio foundation, simultaneously.

“Shared the work”

In his statement on his social media account, the Minister Kurum said, "How did the TOKİ buildings remain intact? The right floor, with the right technique! Our micro-zoning and ground survey studies are continuing rapidly to find the right ground in our new settlements, which we have determined as a result of consultations.
