Today, there is a significant increase in eye diseases, especially myopia, as the use of screens increases due to daily life and work life. Kaşkaloğlu Eye Hospital Chief Physician Op. Kiss. Dr. Asena said, “According to a study conducted in China, eye disorders were examined in 6 children aged 8 to 120 who stayed at home due to the pandemic. It was observed that the incidence of myopia and other visual disturbances in children tripled compared to the previous 5-year period. It has been revealed that children's screen time has increased by at least 2 and a half hours due to online lessons, and when screen activities such as games and social media are added, this time becomes longer.

LASER TECHNOLOGY IS USED IN TREATMENT

Emphasizing that technology provides advantages to both physicians and patients, Op. Dr. Bilgehan Sezgin Asena stated that excimer laser technology has been used in the treatment of eye diseases for the last 30 years; He stated that with the Femtosecond laser device, which has been developed for the last 15 years, a significant increase has been achieved in the success rate of these surgeries.

Giving information about the treatment of refractive errors, Asena continued: “With the Femtosecond laser method, which is expressed as lasik without a knife, eye disorders such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism can be corrected. People who have the operation spend 10-15 minutes in the operating room, and their eye numbers are close to zero with the laser application performed in seconds. Thus, the daily life of patients is also positively affected. The patient can be discharged on the same day.
