Foreign Students Studying in Istanbul Mobilized for Earthquake Victims

Ethiopian, Afghanistan and Cameroonian students studying in Istanbul mobilized for aid after the earthquake that affected 10 provinces in and around Kahramanmaraş.

Students help to pack donations and load them on trucks at the aid collection center established in the Bagcilar Municipality Ottoman Archive warehouse.

Intensity continues in 6 aid collection centers established with the cooperation of Bağcılar District Governorate and Bağcılar Municipality under the coordination of AFAD. Citizens of all ages sort the donations received 24 hours a day and load them onto the trucks. Not only the residents of the district, but also the students who come to our country to study from abroad take part in the aid efforts. Students from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Afghanistan help with every step of the way, from duct taping to folding clothes.

One of them is Ghulam Muhammadi from Afghanistan. Saying that he completed his master's degree in Marmara University Radio and Television, Muhammedi said, “The Turkish nation has always stood by Afghanistan. I try to support earthquake victims as much as I can. May Allah forgive those who were martyred there. May Allah help our brothers and sisters who are in a difficult situation," he said. Ethiopian Murad Ahmed Ali said, “I am a graduate student. I have never seen such a thing in my life. I am really sad. I came here to talk to my teacher and help. Get well soon Turkey,” he said.

Relief materials have been brought to the earthquake area by 6 trucks from the 50 aid collection centers where the work continues. Mayor of Bağcılar Abdullah Özdemir also thanked the residents of the district for their support.
