İBB Deputy Secretary General Buğra Gökce was appointed as the General Manager of IETT, replacing Alper Bigili, who will retire this month.

Changes were made in the management of Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Enterprises (IETT). Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem İmamoğluannounced that the current IETT General Manager Alper Bilgili, who will retire as of February 28, 2023, will serve as the Advisor to the General Secretariat of IMM as of March 1.

Imamoglu, however, said that the General Directorate of IETT will now take place in the Istanbul Transportation Coordination Group and accordingly, the IBB Deputy Secretary General, who leads the Istanbul Transportation Coordination Group of the IETT administration. He stated that Buğra Gökce would be in charge.

Buğra Gökce, who made a statement on the subject on his Twitter account, said, “Our President, Mr. With @ekrem_imamoglu's approval, I am very honored by the decision to manage our century-old plane tree @ietttr by me, within the principle of the integrity of transportation, and I will take over the task, Mr. I wish @alperbilgili success in his new position. With the change made in line with our management model, the @ietttr family within the Transportation Coordination Group will continue its services with the high quality that the people of Istanbul deserve, befitting its past and the second century of our Republic, and will make us feel new pride. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who called me, conveyed their wishes of success and congratulated me, and offer my respect and love.”

Who is Bugra Gokce?

Dr. Buğra Gökçe (born in 1974, Ankara) is a Turkish academician, city planner. He graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning in 1995, received his master's degree from the same university in 2000, and received postgraduate education on planning and urban transportation investments in the cities of Japan with the scholarship given by the Japanese Government in 2007. In 2008, he completed his doctorate at METU City Planning Department.

Since 2002, he has held managerial positions at various levels of the Chamber of City Planners of TMMOB, and in 2006-2007 he served as the General President of the Chamber of City Planners.

He worked as a part-time lecturer at METU and Gazi Universities in 2005-2014. In 2008, he was appointed as a member of İzmir No. 2 Cultural and Natural Heritage Conservation Regional Board. He assumed the presidency of İzmir No. 2009 Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Regional Board in 2010-2.

He started his public service in Ankara Metropolitan Municipality zoning department in 1996. After the 2009 local elections, he resigned from the civil service and started to work in Çankaya Municipality, as his transfer from Ankara Metropolitan Municipality to Çankaya Municipality was not approved. He served as the vice president responsible for investments in Çankaya Municipality in 2010-14.

After the 2014 local elections, he started to work as the head of the science department in Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, and in October 2014 he was appointed as the assistant general secretary. He was appointed as the Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in September 2016, and in March 2017, in person. Gökce, who served as the Secretary General of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality until May 2022, was appointed as the Deputy Secretary General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality as of June 2022.
