92nd Anniversary of Atatürk's Arrival in Denizli Commemorated

The 92nd anniversary of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's arrival in Denizli was commemorated. Emphasizing that Denizli was always with his father, Mayor Zolan said, “We welcome our father back to our city, where he came 92 years ago, and we welcome him with the same spirit and enthusiasm.”

A commemoration ceremony was held on 92 July at Delikliçınar Martyrs' Square on the occasion of the 15nd anniversary of the arrival of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, to Denizli. The ceremony was attended by Denizli Deputy Governor Mehmet Okur, Garrison Deputy Commander Ertan Dabi, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Zolan, Pamukkale University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kutluhan, district mayors, representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations, veterans, relatives of martyrs and citizens attended. At the ceremony, which started with the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk Monument and the singing of the National Anthem, a folk dance show was presented by the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Folk Dance Ensemble. President Zolan, who made the opening speech of the ceremony, said, “On February 4, 1931, the founder of our Republic, the Commander-in-Chief of our War of Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, came to our city and honored our city.”

“Our Denizli has become a city that is pointed out by fingers”

President Osman Zolan continued his speech as follows: “It is very valuable for us that our ancestor visited Denizli. It is said that he used the expression 'This is a big village' about Denizli, which we all know, that day. Of course, Denizli was very far from its present location at that time. But our city has shown the highest level of effort to rise above the level of contemporary civilization that Atatürk showed, and has become a prominent city of our country with its infrastructure, superstructure, green areas, unity and solidarity in education, art, culture, industry, sports. Stating that it is the centennial of the foundation of the Republic, Mayor Zolan stated that they will make efforts to explain its importance and said, “We welcome our ancestor to our city, where he came 92 years ago. We welcome him with the same spirit, the same enthusiasm. We will always continue to walk together towards the goals he has shown.”

Acting Governor Okur: “I congratulate the honor of our people”

Denizli Deputy Governor Mehmet Okur said that they were happy and proud of the 92nd anniversary of the visit of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, to Denizli. Acting Governor Okur said, “92 years ago today, our people, who learned that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk would come to our city, filled the station area and greeted them with great enthusiasm. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk saw the endless love, support and devotion of the people of Denizli to him. I congratulate our people on this day of honor," he said. After the speeches, the students who ranked in the Atatürk Run and the painting competition were given their awards.

Atatürk's arrival in Denizli is commemorated with various events

On the other hand, various activities are organized regarding Atatürk's visit to Denizli. The opening of the exhibition, which includes photographs and paintings of Atatürk's visit to Denizli, at the Turan Bahadır Exhibition Hall of the Metropolitan Municipality was held by Mayor Zolan and his entourage.
