Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum made a statement on his official social media account regarding the work carried out on the bottom sludge cleaning within the scope of the Van Lake Basin Protection Action Plan and Implementation Program, "Our Lake Van will always remain blue! We are working hard to protect our world's pearl, Lake Van, and to carry it to the future in its most beautiful form. To date, 807 cubic meters of bottom mud has been cleaned.” used his statements. In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that the Van Central Waste Water Treatment Plant and Integrated Solid Waste Facility were commissioned for the cleaning of Lake Van, and the illegal barns were demolished and the pollution caused by animal activities was reduced.

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that dredging cleaning continues in Van and Tatvan within the framework of the Van Lake Basin Protection Action Plan and Implementation Program, and the amount of bottom mud that has been extracted so far is 807 thousand cubic meters.

“The 1st stage works have been completed in the center of Van, the work continues on the 2nd and 3rd stages”

Reminding that the bottom mud cleaning works in Van Lake were started in 2019 under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife, Emine Erdoğan, it was stated that the 1st stage works in the center of Van were completed and the 2nd and 3rd stage works are continuing.

In the statement, it was stated that the Van Central Waste Water Treatment Plant and Integrated Solid Waste Facility were commissioned for the cleaning of Lake Van, and the illegal barns were demolished and the pollution caused by animal activities was reduced. It was stated that the improvement work of the streams was completed and the cleaning works continued in order to prevent the pollution reaching the Van Lake through the streams. In addition, it was emphasized that Lake Van was registered as a Sustainable Conservation and Controlled Use Area, one of the natural site statuses, in order to ensure the balance of protection and use.

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was underlined that the "Van Lake Basin Protection Action Plan and Implementation Program" was created with the participation of all relevant institutions and started to be implemented as of March 2020 in order to prevent point and diffuse source pollutants in the Van Lake basin.
