Bursa's being the 2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture with the intense efforts of the Metropolitan Municipality also contributed greatly to the city's economy. According to the October data, the number of foreign tourists coming to Bursa in 2021 increased by 2022 percent and the length of stay of foreigners increased by 143 percent compared to 136.

Bursa at the 38th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY), which works to transfer the common Turkish culture, language, history, art, traditions and customs to future generations by establishing friendly relations between Turkic speaking peoples and countries. It was chosen as the “2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture”. Aiming to carry this title in the best possible way, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality made its official opening in March with the celebrations of Nevruz Festival, and made the heart of the Turkish world beat in Bursa with different events. Bursa was introduced in 8 different countries on the occasion of the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World. Bursa's silk, gastronomic products, natural beauties, folk dances and music were showcased internationally. At the Bursa Promotion Day held at the European Parliament in Brussels, the heart of Europe, the attention of not only the Turkish world but also Europe was drawn to Bursa.

Bursa, in the record book

Bursa, with the title of Cultural Capital of the Turkic World, hosted the Union of Turkish World Municipalities International Conference of Local Authorities and hosted 170 mayors from different continents. The Manas Epic record attempt was held in Bursa and the longest text reading record was broken in Bursa. In this way, with this attempt, which entered the Guinness Book of Records, the paths of the Epic of Manas, the common cultural heritage value of not only the Kyrgyz but also the entire Turkish World, and Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World in 2022, have permanently crossed. Hosting the 2022 Turkish World Korkut Ata Film Festival, Bursa also hosted very successful cinema industry representatives from various countries. Bursa-themed exhibitions were held in Serbia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Belgium, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. Presidency, ministry and embassy level visits were made from the Turkish world. At the symposium held within the scope of the Turkish World Women and Fashion Week, experts from various countries explained the techniques and products of their countries. 120 different designs were exhibited in the fashion show with the theme of the Turkish world.

The number of tourists increased

Transferring the title of Cultural Capital of the Turkic World to the city of Shusha in Azerbaijan, Bursa revealed that it is the pole star of the Turkish world with the event it held throughout the year. There was also an intense participation from the countries of the Turkish world to the organizations led by the Metropolitan Municipality and the Governor's Office. In 2022, more than 182 thousand people participated in the events organized within the scope of the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World, and more than 2000 guests from various countries were hosted in Bursa. The gains of Bursa's being titled as the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World were especially revealed by the increase in the number of domestic and foreign tourists coming to the city. While the number of tourists staying in Bursa in 2021 was 1.339.617, this number increased to 2022 in 1.958.633, according to October data. While the number of incoming tourists increased by 47.78 percent, the length of stay increased by 46,21 percent. The increase in the number of foreign tourists coming to Bursa was 143 percent, and the increase in the stay of foreigners was 136 percent.

Bursa's mission is not over yet

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş evaluated the gains of the title of the Turkish World Capital of Culture for the city. Reminding that he has said since the first day that the most important way to increase tourism revenues in Bursa is publicity, President Aktaş said, “Millions of interactions were achieved through social media only from 2022 Turkish World Culture Capital Bursa accounts, excluding the interactions of stakeholder institutions. We believe that we have left good memories for all our domestic and foreign guests who come to Bursa. As Bursa, we handed over the title to the city of Shusha in Azerbaijan, but our duty does not end here. TURKSOY, at the 39th Permanent Council, decided to establish a Union of Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World and Bursa to coordinate. On this occasion, Bursa-based coordination of the capitals that have been and will be selected as the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World will be ensured. We are aware of the responsibility we have undertaken. Like a pole star, we will continue to shine wherever our geography extends, and we will not compromise on our pioneering and exemplary city feature.”
