In the Marmara Sea, where maritime traffic is intense; With the regulation made within the scope of combating marine pollution, it was aimed to strengthen marine inspection activities, to control environmental problems, to detect pollution at an early stage and to take measures, to detect and monitor all kinds of pollution with an integrated structure specific to the region. In this context, the Turkish Environment Agency was authorized for the inspection of marine pollution in Istanbul and Kocaeli, where sea traffic is intense.

As a result of the studies carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, an arrangement was made in the “Delegation of Authority on the Detection of Marine Pollution from Ships” in order to strengthen the marine inspection activities carried out in the Marmara Sea and to provide an integrated structure specific to the region.

With the circular issued by the Ministry, the Turkish Environment Agency was authorized in accordance with the 2872th article of the Environment Law to monitor the compliance of the marine vehicles with the provisions of the Environmental Law No.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change expressed the need to strengthen the marine inspection activities carried out in the Marmara Sea with the participation of scientists and related institutions and organizations to solve the mucilage problem in the Marmara Sea in 2021 and to provide them with an integrated structure specific to the region. was brought. Within the scope of the Action Plan for the Protection of the Marmara Sea, which was prepared in cooperation with all the stakeholders in the studies, with the 12th action plan, the decision "to increase the inspections in all basins related to the Marmara Sea by using remote sensing, satellite and early warning systems, unmanned aerial vehicles and radar systems" with the help of the Turkish Environment Agency. receipt.

With the authorization given to the Turkish Environment Agency, with the regulation made within the scope of combating marine pollution in the Marmara Sea, where maritime traffic is intense, strengthening marine inspection activities, ensuring the control of environmental negativities, detecting pollution at an early stage and taking precautions, detecting and monitoring all kinds of pollution specific to the region. It was aimed to provide an integrated structure.

Within the scope of the studies to be carried out by the Turkish Environment Agency; Inspections will be carried out for the control, monitoring and follow-up of environmental negativities and the detection of all kinds of pollution for the activities of protecting and improving the environment within the borders of the sea. 7/24 based monitoring and inspections from air, land and sea will be provided by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and sea boats. In addition, a tracking-warning system will be activated by using satellite and radar images for the early detection of marine pollution.

With the regulation, the Marmara Sea Integrated Strategic Action Plan, which was prepared and put into effect within the scope of the Marmara Sea Protection Action Plan, aims to determine and implement policies and strategies to eliminate the intense pollution in the Marmara Sea and to bring the Marmara Sea Basin to a good environmental condition.
