'Women and Economics Congress' to be Held in Izmir

The "Women and Economics Congress", the first of the forums to be held by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in parallel with the preparations for the Second Century Economics Congress, will be held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center (AASSM) on February 2. More than 50 representatives of women's associations working at the national and international level will attend the meeting.

The Economics Congress of the Second Century, organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, continues with preparatory meetings, meetings and forums. The first of the forums to be held in parallel with the preparatory work of the congress, which set out with the slogan "We are building the Turkey of the Future", was determined as the "Women and Economics Congress".

The "Women and Economics Congress" on February 2, where Tüpraş will be the theme sponsor, will be held in partnership with the Federation of Western Anatolian Industrialists and Businessmen's Associations (BASİFED) and with the support of the Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED).
Women from many different professions will come together at the forum to be held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center (AASSM). More than 50 representatives of women's associations working at the national and international level will attend the meeting.

Re-edited after 100 years

A "Women's Congress", about which little is known, was held before the first Izmir Economics Congress, which was organized by the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk before the establishment of the Republic. The congress, which was held on February 2, 1923 in order to draw attention to the place and importance of women in the social development process, will convene again on the same day as the “Women and Economics Congress” a hundred years later.

More than 50 experts and businesswomen will attend

The meeting to be held at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center will consist of forum and congress sections. In the Forum section, many representatives working on women's rights and women will present their ideas and suggestions for the construction of the future Turkey's economic policies and share their projects.

The forum moderated by İdil Türkmenoğlu was opened by İzmir Business Women's Association (IZIKAD) Chairman of the Board Betül Sezgin, Aegean Management Consultants Association (EgeYDD) Chairman of the Board E. Pınar Kılıç, Aegean Industrialists and Businessmen Association (ESİAD) Chairman of the Board Sibel Zorlu and Ege İş Şahika Aşkıner, Chairman of the Board of the Women's Association (EGİKAD).
Within the scope of the Forum, İzmir Village-Koop Union Chairman of the Board Neptün Soyer, Revolutionary Workers' Unions Confederation (DİSK) Chairman Arzu Çerkezoğlu, TÜRKONFED Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Women in Business (IDK) Commission Reyhan Aktar will each make speeches.

There are 12 associations, 2 members and nearly 5 businesses within the body of the Western Anatolian Federation of Industrialists' and Businessmen's Associations (BASİFED), which is the partner of the “Women and Economics Congress”. BASİFED provides employment for 4 thousand people by providing 2 percent of Turkey's foreign trade and 35 percent of registered employment in agriculture and non-public sector.

Contributing to the event, TÜRKONFED gathers 30 federations, more than 300 national and international associations and more than 60 thousand companies under its roof. TÜRKONFED, with its member base, provides 83 percent of total (non-energy) foreign trade and 55 percent of registered employment in agriculture and non-public sector.

Expert meetings have come to an end

The six-month-long preparatory meetings of the Second Century Economics Congress, which aimed to create the economic policies of the new century with a common mind, started with the stakeholder meetings, which constituted the first phase of the congress. Within the scope of stakeholder meetings, many sessions were held with the participation of farmers, workers, industrialists, traders and tradesmen. The final texts prepared at the end of the meetings were shared with the public.

The expert meetings, which constitute the second phase, examine the prepared declarations from a conceptual and academic point of view. Expert meetings are held under four different topics.

The first meeting of experts, “We are satisfied with each other”, on January 13, at St. Vukolos Church, “Back to Nature” meeting on January 20, at İzmir Agricultural Development Center (İZTAM), “We Understand Our Past” meeting on January 25 at Yeşilova Tumulus. was carried out in The last expert meeting, “We See the Future”, will be held on February 4 at the IzQ Entrepreneurship Center.

Congress starts on February 15

The Second Century Economics Congress, designed as a civil, transparent and fully participatory initiative, will be held between February 15-21, 2023. At the end of the congress, policy proposals that will shape the new century will be shared with all of Turkey.
