Samsun's New City Vision 'Saathane Square'

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality's urban transformation project continues in Saathane Square, which hosts the most beautiful works of Ottoman architecture. Aiming to restore the square to its former glory and make it a center of attraction in line with its historical texture, the Metropolitan Municipality increases the aesthetics of Saathane Square with its landscaping works. President Mustafa Demir said, “We are bringing our city together with its history and cultural values. Saathane Square is the new city vision of Samsun that we are preparing for the future. This is a project to meet with our history and culture,” he said.

Saathane Square, the trade colony of the Genoese, exhibits the best examples of the cultural urban fabric with Taşhan, Süleyman Paşa Madrasa Mosque, Şifa Bath, and the Clock Tower, which was built in 2 to commemorate the accession of Sultan Abdülhamit Han to the throne. While the restored architectural works continue to serve, the new concept of the square, which is at peace with its history, is almost dazzling.

HISTORY IS AGAINST ITS VITALITY

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, which meticulously continues the urban transformation project, which will make a significant contribution to tourism when completed, has made significant progress in the project. With the construction of workplaces suitable for aesthetic texture, Saathane Square will regain its former commercial vitality.

Accelerating the construction works within the scope of the project, the Metropolitan Municipality is rearranging the historical square with the recreation it has started. The teams of the Department of Science Affairs, who built pavements of aesthetic cut stones around the workplaces whose construction was completed, continue their work on Meydan Hamam Sokak and Pazar Mahallesi Sokak. Renovating the streets, the teams place the urban furniture produced in the Natural Stone Elements Production Factory around the square.

STREETS ARE RENEWED

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir, who gave information about the recreation activities, said, “We are bringing our city together with its history and cultural values. Saathane Square is the new city vision of Samsun that we are preparing for the future. This is a project of meeting with our history and culture. For this reason, we attach great importance to the project. We weave the square again, stitch by stitch. Within the scope of the first stage, we completed the floor covering and opened it to the service of our people. Instead of the workplaces we demolished in the second and third stages, we have completed the construction of shops that are compatible with their historical texture and that do not disturb the aesthetics with their design. While the construction of the fourth stage, in which we took care not to victimize our tradesmen, continued, we started recreational activities to increase aesthetics. Our teams are currently renovating the streets. With the completion of the work, Saathane Square will become sparkling.”
