Explaining that they are working to develop Turkey and raise it above the level of contemporary civilizations, Varank said:

“Today, scientists who will organize a science expedition to Antarctica will set out. We started to deal with Antarctica thanks to the vision of our President. More than 50 countries currently have research centers and bases in Antarctica. Turkey had never been interested in this place until our government. When you look at it, if you are going to do scientific research about the past and future of the world, its natural laboratory is Antarctica. None of us took care of them. WE SEND HIGH SCHOOLS TO ANTARCTICA

Pointing out that Turkey has temporary science bases in Antarctica, Varank continued as follows:

“Our intention is to establish a permanent science base there. Look, more than 50 countries have bases there. Not a single Muslim country currently has a science base there. Who will do it, we will do it by Allah's leave. It is important to present this vision. There are 3 high school students among the scientists who went on a science expedition. Students who came first in the TUBITAK polar research competition. We're sending top-ranking high school students to Antarctica. They will try their own projects there. That's how wide our horizon is. You wouldn't believe me if I said, '20 years ago, we will send high school students to Antarctica who won the competition,' but here is our real intention to build a developing Turkey with science and technology. The way to do this is to invest in young people.

After the speeches, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, President of Climate Change Orhan Solak and President of TÜBİTAK Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal signed the cooperation protocol for the establishment of TÜBİTAK Clean Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability Research Institute in Konya.

The program was attended by AK Party Deputy Chairman Leyla Şahin Usta, Governor Vahdettin Özkan, AK Party Provincial President Hasan Angı, MHP Provincial President Remzi Karaarslan, deputies and mayors.
