Izmir Metropolitan Municipality was rewarded for its populist culture and art works, and ESHOT General Directorate for its "social benefit".
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and ESHOT General Directorate were deemed worthy of the Silver Clock Tower Awards given by Anadolu University Alumni Association as part of the Menderes Gastronomy, Culture and Promotion Festival. Ceren Umay, Head of Culture and Art Department, received the award given to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for its popular policies and successful works in the fields of culture, art and social services.
ESHOT General Directorate, which refurbished 180 buses, which were worn out due to years of use in public transportation, instead of scrapping them, and donated them to provincial and district municipalities from all over Turkey, was also deemed worthy of an award for its work in the public interest.
Bey: “We should also do forward transformation”
ESHOT General Manager Erhan Bey, who attended the ceremony, drew attention to the concept of “up-transformation” applied in developed countries. Erhan Bey said, “The reuse of goods, vehicles or raw materials in order to reduce waste is called upcycling”. “We have renewed a total of 180 buses from their engines to their bodies, from tires to paints, from air conditioners to seats and upholstery. We donated to provincial and district municipalities, some units of our Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, again for the use of our people. Scrapping, again, by upcycling, we ensured that these vehicles were used for the same purpose. We all know how much importance we should attach to recycling in order to protect our world and our resources. We should not lose sight of upcycling activities, which are one step beyond this.
