Fig Cultivation Training Provided to Producers

Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FTSO) continues its efforts to bring the agricultural products of Fethiye and Seydikemer to the fore, especially geographically indicated products. After the distribution of 2500 Fethiye Rock Fig saplings grown in Aydın Fig Research Institute by FTSO, online 'Fig Cultivation' training was given.

In cooperation with the FTSO and Aydın Fig Research Institute, 'Fig Cultivation' training was held on January 16, 2023, in line with the objectives of increasing the production of geographically marked Fethiye Rock Fig and efficient cultivation. In the online training moderated by FTSO Foreign Trade and Industrial Transactions Officer Özge Ertürk Hakanoğlu and Agricultural Engineer from Aydın Fig Research Institute Plant Health Department Hülya Ulusay, Agricultural Engineer Mesut Özen from Aydın Fig Research Institute Breeding and Genetics Department and Plant Agricultural Engineer Eşref Tutmuş from the Department of Health gave information to the participants. After the informative presentations within the scope of the training, the questions of the participants were answered.

In the fig cultivation training, Agricultural Engineer Mesut Özen gave information about the certified saplings and made a detailed presentation about the points to be considered while determining the location of the garden to be grown, planting distances, the characteristics of fresh and dried varieties, and the processing methods necessary for an efficient harvest.

Agricultural Engineer Eşref Tutmuş gave information about the ways of biological and chemical control and appropriate times of struggle while conveying the fig disease and pest varieties in his presentation during the training. The online training ended after the participants' questions were answered.

Chairman Çıralı, “Demand for our geographically marked products is increasing”

Emphasizing that education is very beneficial for breeders, FTSO Chairman of the Board Osman Çıralı said that they will continue to take part in all activities that will contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Reminding that they distributed 1500 saplings this year after 2500 saplings distributed last year with the support of Aydın Fig Research Institute, Seydikemer and Fethiye Chamber of Agriculture, Çıralı said, “As Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we see promotion, production and education in agricultural products as a whole. It is pleasing to observe that our geographically indicated products are in demand with an increasing momentum both in sales and production. We will continue to highlight the important products of Fethiye and Seydikemer. In addition, we take our work one step further; We are taking steps to take the necessary actions to ensure the registration of Fethiye Rock Fig in the European Union.' he said.
