Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have discovered a new species of Pachypleurosauria dating back 244 million years in Luoping county, Yunnan province, China. It represents the oldest fossil record of this multi-jointed Sauropterygia species.
Called the "Strange Pingluo Dinosaur", this fossil "four-legged snake" with a sharp mouth and a long snout is more than half a meter tall. The results for the dinosaur were published in the international academic journal Scientific Reports.
