People's Bread in Kahramanmaraş Elbistan is 2023 Lira in 1!

The Municipality of Elbistan continues its cheap bread policy, which it started in 2020, this year as well. Elbistan Municipality, which obtains its flour by planting its own fields, produces the bread cheaply by providing its energy from the GES power plant and sells it to the public for 1 lira.

Elbistan Municipality, which produces the cheapest bread in Turkey and delivers bread to low-income families for 1 lira, continues the practice that it started in 2020 in 2023 as well.

Determined to continue its cheap bread policy, Elbistan Municipality is cultivating wheat by turning its unused areas in rural neighborhoods into fields.

The municipality, which produces its own flour, uses some of the income from the Ges power plant in bread production, produces the bread cheaply and sells it to low-income families for 1 lira.

Stating that they will continue their cheap bread policy in 2023, Mayor Mehmet Gürbüz said that they planted wheat by making all idle areas arable for sustainable practice.

Stating that they have made use of all possibilities to ensure that families with low incomes have access to bread at an affordable price, President Gürbüz said: “Since 2020, we have been offering our citizens Halk Ekmek for one lira. We have decided not to make a raise in 2023, and we have declared this to our citizens. Of course, there were planting fields before to be able to offer this. By adding the arable land belonging to the Municipality of Elbistan, we increased this cultivation area to 330 thousand square meters and planted einkorn wheat. We aim to share this with other kilns, if necessary, if we obtain a harvest that exceeds our use after harvesting. I also want to give them social support. Therefore, in 2023, our citizens will buy People's Bread in Elbistan for one lira. In order to provide this service to our citizens, the SPP investments we have made before have increased the opportunity to generate energy. And we provide all the energy we use now from our own investments. We are proud of being a municipality that produces flour, that is, uses the planting fields, produces its own electricity that does not leave empty, and increases its capacity with its own workforce and offers the citizens Halk Ekmek for one lira," he said.

Citizens are also satisfied with this application of the municipality. Emphasizing the importance of low-income families being able to buy bread at affordable prices, some citizens thanked the Municipality of Elbistan and said that the continuation of the practice was pleasing.
